Conor McGregor posts training footage, hints at IFW 2027 return

Fresh off his last appearance in the Octagon at UFC 329 on July 11 against Max Holloway, McGregor suffered a knee injury that ended his return to the Octagon. And recently, the 'Notorious' shared an Instagram video on July 28, 2026, highlighting the training he had done for his comeback fight.

The Instagram video highlighted the former two-division UFC record-breaking icon engaging in striking drills alongside footwork and agility training. His hinted-at comeback footage showcased him focusing on the very fundamentals that have made him so dangerous inside the Octagon.

“What was to be a generational beating is now to be reset. IFW 2027 The Last Dance,” stated the caption.

As per this video, McGregor is eyeing a comeback after approximately 12 months, i.e, June of 2027.

The Instagram video is a perfect highlight of the intense work he was putting in for his rematch against Max Holloway, letting the world know that 'The Notorious' was fully ready for his next chapter.

McGregor doesn’t only focus on MMA training for his fights. His training routine, he stated, is all about balance. For him, workouts centered on balance and strength help him most when prepping for fights.

Inside the training philosophy of Conor McGregor

McGregor has a unique fight philosophy, where he not only rations his food but also his energy right before big fights.

According to an interview with Muscle & Fitness back in 2016 when he was preparing for the Nate Diaz rematch, McGregor revealed that he practiced yoga, handstands, and planks to build the balance and flexibility he credits as his most important skill.

“Physically, my most important skill is balance. It’s not a single thing, but exercises that are about balance are most beneficial for me,” McGregor said.

He has often talked about how he was unfocused with his training for previous fights.

“My training was just too much and not focused. I’ve never been one to overtrain or go too hard. I prefer constant, light to medium, intelligent training, and I got away from that last time. That’s not an issue now.”

Alongside following a proper training routine, McGregor has shifted his focus to nutrition. He admitted to staying away from all junk and unhealthy food, becoming more disciplined with time.

His typical diet includes fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, steak, and high-quality greens. While he relies on coconut water for hydration, he also admitted to loving coffee.
