Alison Brie Shows Off Her Strength Training for the Masters of the Universe
Don't mistake Alison Brie's deceptively petite physique. She's a powerhouse in disguise. And her training regimen for the latest He-Man movie, Masters of the Universe, has kept the industry gaping.
The 43-year-old actress, who underwent an insane physical transformation for her role as the wrestler, Ruth Wilder, in the Netflix series GLOW, has since been obsessed with the gym.
Transforming into the villain Evil-Lyn in the 2026 superhero action flick, Brie already had a foundation to build upon, she told Women's Health in the latest episode of the video series Strong Like.
"Since GLOW, I have maintained my training so consistently, so gearing up for something like Masters of the Universe was actually much easier…because I have that muscle memory already."
So what does her typical everyday session look like? Women's Health joined the actress and her Rise Movement (gym of 15 years) coach, Jason Walsh, for her average workout session.
A week of her training sessions includes 3 days at Rise Movement, 2 days of Pilates or Peloton, and a hiking day to boost zone 2 cardio alongside ample recovery.
Inside the gym, Brie begins with hip thrusts warm-up using 50 lbs, while her actual working weight is a whopping 300 lbs. Then she does a set of contrast training, or Zercher Squats, a lift extremely popular with wrestlers and MMA fighters.
That follows with 45 lbs weighted pull-ups (for reps!) and weighted push-ups. She concludes her workouts with modified full-body shoulder presses.
However, as Brie shared, her diet is just as important as the work she puts in the gym.
Alison Brie's amplified diet since GLOW
Preparing for GLOW completely shifted Alison Brie's perspective on fitness, especially her eating regimen.
"A lot of women, especially in my profession, feel like they have to starve themselves to lose weight. I’ve certainly felt that way in the past," the action actress told the Skimm.
However, she admitted that training under Walsh for the action-packed series, where she did all the stunts herself, "eating more than ever," helped her get in her zone.
Her diet, which consisted mostly of proteins, vegetables, and good fats, not only supported her grueling workouts but also helped her retain more of her muscle mass for the big screen.
Counterintuitively, the actress also ditched cardio for the most part from the training program, which worked wonders for the series.
Alison Brie is back in the gym, pushing her body's limits. And her latest film, Masters of the Universe, is an ode to that same unwavering passion.
