Arnold Schwarzenegger Calls Out the $70 Billion Supplement Myth

Arnold Schwarzenegger has seen supplement companies grow from just protein providers to billion-dollar businesses, but what he doesn't see it their benefits.
On February 13, the Austrian Oak took to his X account to highlight how America wasn't becoming any healthier despite the country's population spending a staggering "$70 billion" on supplements yearly.
Arnold called out the culture of supplement usage, saying, "I’ve been in this game for more than fifty years. I’ve seen every miracle p***, every breakthrough formula, every ‘revolutionary’ discovery. Most of them disappeared faster than they arrived. The ones that stuck around? They’re boring. They’re basic. And they actually work."
Well, data from the Health Science Institute and the Medical Advisory Board of the US also support Arnold's claim:
- According to the Institute in the US, 35% of adults are estimated to have insufficient vitamin D.
- According to the Medical Advisory Board, nearly 45% of adults in the US are magnesium-deficient.
- In 2023, Healthline published a report stating that, for an adult, the recommended intake of DHA and EPA combined is between 250 and 500 mg. However, in an adult American, that range is just 90 mg per day.
Schwarzenegger highlighted the prime reason behind this issue. He penned, "I’ll tell you how: because most people are taking the wrong things, in the wrong forms, for the wrong reasons. They’re buying hope in a bottle instead of solving actual problems”.
But Schwarzenegger has done more than just identifying the problem. He also has a solution for it.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Guide to Effective Supplement Usage
Schwarzenegger developed Arnold's Pump Club in 2023, and online fitness application where he offered free guidance designed to transform how Americans think about nutritional supplements.
Speaking about his project, he said, "The aim is to educate the people, not just give them a list of products. He also stressed the effective usage of supplements, saying, "What you’ll find is that most of what you need won’t be found in p**** or powders. It’s in the behaviors that consistently deliver."
According to the 8x Mr. Olympia champion, the goal should be to select fewer supplements or required things which are the right ones, and when taken consistently, can "actually making a difference."
Arnold Pump Club also provides guidance on how one's behavior can either strengthen their body or leave them vulnerable.
So, are you thinking of using it to make your supplement usage more precise?
