Long before The Expendables happened and they became friends, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were involved in an old-fashioned Hollywood feud. Over time, the competition between the two action movie stars grew so intense that Schwarzenegger was rumored to have tricked the Rocky star into choosing the worst movie of his career.

And the movie in question was the 1992 comedic action movie “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.”

So, according to Huffpost, Stallone told The Hollywood Reporter that, "I had heard Schwarzenegger was going to do that movie and I said, I’m going to beat him to it.” But, later, he admitted, “I think he (Arnold) set me up”.

The bodybuilding legend once admitted it during his appearance at Beyond Fest 2017. He said, “True. I read the script. It was so bad. You know, I've also done some movies that went right in the t*****, right? That were bad. But this was really bad.”

He continued by saying, “This was during our war – I said to myself, I'm going to leak out that I have tremendous interest…. I would then ask for a lot of money. So then they'd say, 'Let's go give it to Sly.”

And, as planned, the filmmakers went to Sly and convinced him to make the movie.

The Austrian Oak continued, “And he went for it! He totally went for it. A week later, I heard about it: Sly is signing now to do this movie. And I said, Yes!”

As expected, the movie did poorly and has a 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Not only that, Roger Ebert, the famous film critic, said the movie was “utterly lacking in even the smallest morsel of redeeming”.

Sly himself once admitted that, “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot was the worst. If you ever want someone to confess to m***** just make him or her sit through that film. They will confess to anything after 15 minutes.”

While Arnie tricked Sly for the movie, he later revealed that he resolved the feud between them.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Opens Up About How He Resolved the Feud With Sylvester Stallone

On June 21, 2025, a short YouTube clip shared by Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show revealed that Arnie admitted he and Sly hated each other during Hollywood’s peak.

However, it was “Planet Hollywood” that ended their rivalry.

He also added, “We were kind of attacking each other and doing nasty things, and saying nasty things about each other, and all these stupid things.

All of a sudden, I started working with Robert Earl and Keith Parish to create the Planet Hollywood franchise, those restaurants”.

According to him, during that time, he received a phone call from his lawyer, who was also Stallone’s lawyer, asking Arnie to add Sly to the Planet Hollywood project.

He instantly made the decision to stop the rivalry and said, “Sure enough, we made it work. And Bruce Willis became part of Planet Hollywood, Whoopi Goldberg became part of Planet Hollywood, Chuck Norris… It really was kind of an international cast”.

And that way, the iconic restaurant chain started in 1991, and the issues between these 2 got resolved.

So, what started as a clever rivalry evolved into a partnership and mutual respect.
