On July 2, the Instagram account for the Arnold Sports Festival revisited the moment by sharing a short clip of Arnold’s Cannes appearance, captioned, “Arnold Schwarzenegger making an appearance at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival to promote his upcoming Pumping Iron.”

In the post, the Austrian Oak was seen shirtless, and his physique was capable of capturing all the attention, making it a publicity man's dream.

Speaking about the experience, the 7-time Mr. Olympia said, “The body was for me a vehicle to break into the films because I was not a professional actor. So it was a very good vehicle for me. It's a visual thing.”

People are interested in looking at it. Being the most perfectly developed man, the most muscular man. There were 100 photographers out there because I was posing with some girls.”

Pumping Iron, released on January 18, 1977, was a success—and Schwarzenegger's appearance at Cannes helped promote it. The film featured Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, and it helped spark the mainstream gym and fitness craze of the 1980s.
