Breon Ansley Confirms His Participation in the 212 Lbs Category- “New Challenge”

In recent news, "The Black Swan" of the bodybuilding world has outgrown the Classic Physique cage.

Classic Physique star Breon Ansley recently confirmed his long-anticipated transition to the Men’s 212 division. It will be interesting to see how Ansley translates his trademark aesthetics and conditioning to a heavier class.

The announcement was made via Ansley's Instagram account, with a caption celebrating his journey so far.

"My Classic journey has been incredible, and now it’s time for a journey of its own in the 212 division!! With this new challenge, I expect it to be nothing but completely fulfilling!! Let’s Rock!", he wrote.

Calling the journey “emotional” and “exhilarating,” Breon reminisced about his years of hard work, discipline, and dedication in the Classic Physique division.

"It has been a tremendous run, competing in 10 consecutive Olympias, winning two Olympia titles, one Arnold Classic title, amongst many other prestigious pro show titles. And the journey has been emotional," he stated.

For years, Ansley ruled the Classic Physique division as one of its pioneering athletes. He is remembered not only for winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018, but also as one of the few bodybuilders to defeat the Classic Physique legend, Chris Bumstead.

His polished posing, detailed back, and unmatched conditioning made him one of the best Classic Physique men of all time.

He continued, "Now I'm looking forward to the same journey, now into this 212 division. I know this will be a big challenge, and I'm definitely thrilled about it. And I will be competing in the 212 this year."

The two-time champion is expected to make his Men's 212 debut at the Asian Pro Championships in South Korea on August 23.

Ansley cited the Classic Physique weight cap as challenging to keep up with, explaining that the cut often forced him to sacrifice fullness and muscle size.

The 212 division will allow him to compete without those restrictions and bring a fuller size to the stage. The 46-year-old will be up against reigning champion Keone Pearson and former titleholder Shaun Clarida, and is already being considered as a strong contender.

But the announcement has left many wondering what made Breon Ansley decide to switch to a heavier class.

Who Inspired Breon Ansley to Switch to the Men’s 212 Division?

Last January, Ansley shared a video on YouTube in which he revealed his inspiration for the transition to the 212 division.

“A big reason of what helped me make this decision was Keone’s [Pearson] look. Keone’s look and the prowess of the champ, the prowess that Keone has right now. Keone is looking really powerful, he’s looking really strong, and he has just a massive Classic look.”

Ansley went on to praise Keone Pearson, highlighting the latter's noteworthy size without losing the aesthetics he brought from Classic Physique.

He added, “He has that look. He has that look on, like I’m sure he’s looking like okay, yeah, now he has the look on that he’s happy with.”

For those who don't know, Keone Pearson also competed in the Classic Physique division before becoming a top 212 division bodybuilder.
