With just two months to go before facing Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano has revealed the brutal reality of cutting weight at this stage in her career.
On March 20, Carano sat down with Khalil Rountree and Michael Bisping on the Jaxxon podcast, where she detailed what a fighter has to deal with when it comes to weight cutting. Reflecting on her experience, 'Conviction' highlighted:
“What happens is you drop, and then it stabilizes, and then your cheeks fill back out, and your body fills out to normal, and then you drop again.”
The fighter-turned-actress will return to competition nearly 15 years after her final fight against Cris Cyborg, which ended in a defeat. With such a long absence, she knows that she might face some challenges in weight-cutting, considering the fact that she is 43 now.
“I don't think that at this age, cutting weight is really healthy. Um, you know it's not healthy for the heart," Carano highlighted.
However, Carano is no stranger to extreme cuts; in the same conversation, she revealed she dropped 12 pounds in a sauna ahead of a fight back in her competing days.
With two months remaining, Carano is confident she will be able to make weight. However, what’s interesting is that ‘Conviction’ has publicly acknowledged that Ronda Rousey might be a different beast.

In the same conversation, Carano revealed that back in her 20s, she fought purely on instinct and never game-planned for anyone, “I was fighting out of a place of survival. I was fighting out of a place of — nobody ever really game-planned me for a fight.”
Speaking about her past, Carano revealed that she never discussed her opponents before her fights.
“But like, no. Nobody ever planned me,” she continued. “We’re game-planning now… It’s really cool to actually have a game plan for a specific opponent.”
She used to fight on pure instinct. However, this time, she has a proper team that is giving her a game plan to take on Rousey.
