A New York sports physician has completed 15 Ironman races. Dr. Jordan Metzl credits a disciplined daily routine for his extreme endurance. He revealed the specific morning, commute, and weekend workouts that power his performance.

The doctor in question here is Dr. Jordan Metzl, who, speaking to Business Insider, revealed that he has completed 200 endurance-focused events, including 15 Ironman triathlons, marathons, and half marathons.

Apart from that, on November 4, Dr. Metzl posted on his Instagram with the caption “Instagram Life vs. Real Life - New York City Marathon Edition.” He was seen participating in a 26.2-mile marathon.

The author of the book “Push: Unlock the Science of Fitness Motivation to Embrace Health and Longevity” also said regular exercise is “the most ubiquitous, effective, totally no-side-effects d*** in the world.”

Let’s understand his workout in detail.

Dr. Jordan Metzl’s Morning Strength Training

Dr. Metzl likes to start his day at 5:30 am and includes either high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or a strength workout.

His favorite exercise is hill sprints, along with 10 sets of plyometric jump squats. Dr. Metzl said, “I have some dumbbells, I'll go to the park next door,” while talking to Business Insider.  He further added, “I'm like this crazy guy, 6 in the morning, doing some strength training in the park with the sun coming up, but I find it really helpful.”

Running as a Way of Commuting for Dr. Jordan Metzl

After his morning workout, Metzl prefers to walk to his office and carries a backpack with running clothes.

After his office, if Dr. doesn't have any pending work, his favorite way to return home is running. He revealed, “I'll run up through Central Park and come back,” so that “I do 4 or 5 miles on the way home or something like that.” These shorter sessions of walking and running help him feel more energized and give him a sense of accomplishment.

Dr. likes to raise awareness about health. He even started a project called “IronStrength program,” where Metzl teaches group workout classes for runners and triathletes.

One such program was organized in collaboration with HYROX at the Intrepid Museum in New York City, and Metzl shared pictures on his social media handle.

Weekends Are for Intense Training for Dr. Jordan Metzl

Usually, Saturdays are for a long run or a bike ride for Metzl. Running helps him with mental training, and he said, “This time of year, I'll do an hour-and-a-half, two-hour run.”

He shared his working-out philosophy with Business Insider and said, “You need to be comfortable being uncomfortable, so those longer runs are a great time to start getting better at those kinds of things.”

Dr. prefers to work out even on Sundays and said, “I'll try and do something like a swim.” Metzl doesn’t “believe in rest days,” and he believes that “our bodies are built to move.” He further explained, “If I have a day where I don't move, my body's like, 'Dude, what's up?' It really doesn't like it.”

The combination of high- and low-intensity workouts helps him stay fit and active throughout his day and also assists him in managing both work and training.
