Dorian Yates may have blown off the steam from his bodybuilding career, but his images still send ripples through the internet. However, the story of his 1993 upgrade is one of a kind.

The retired bodybuilder recently shared a rare clip on Instagram from his dungeon gym in Birmingham, back in 1993. Flexing in front of the camera, the physique that shook the competition decades ago still doesn't fail to stupefy the muscle heads.

The caption read: "I post this clip up every now and then, it’s cool to see in colour, the footage that would become those famous black & white pics at 6 weeks out."

A few black-and-white pictures from this session were released in the Flex Magazine 6 weeks before Mr. Olympia. They sent shockwaves through the bodybuilding world. Even before Yates entered the stage, his 2nd Mr. Olympia victory felt set in stone.

But that physique was hardly the finished product, as Yates wrote, "This wasn’t still the final, finished article, I wanted to be even more shredded."

His training philosophy was one of an intensive monster build, reaching over 300 lbs in his off-season. At 270 lbs in this clip, this was just the beginning of a physique that kept his dominance unwavering from 1990 to 1997.

With a bar set that high, Yates often remains critical of the current bodybuilding scene.

Dorian Yates Claims Today’s Bodybuilders Don’t Represent the ‘Ultimate Male Physique'

Dorian Yates set the muscle world to new heights. But according to 'The Shadow,' that has become a thing of the past.

While Schwarzenegger and Haney kept the sport alive, owing to their muscularity and height, some traits seem to be slipping away in today's competitive scene.

"If you talk about the guys that are Mr. Olympia now and you show that to members of the public and tell them that’s the ultimate male physique, well, hold on, he’s only like five-foot-four or something, isn’t he? He’s like a fridge.” Yates' harsh criticism made waves online.

His critique underscores a growing debate about whether modern bodybuilding still reflects that “ultimate” physique he once embodied.

And while that conversation isn't yet settled, Yates remains a huge influence in the bodybuilding world, decades after his dungeon era rewrote history.
