Dutch footballer Georginio Wijnaldum Stays on Track With Dedicated Gym Work

The Dutch soccer star, Georginio Wijnaldum, may not have received the call to join the national team for the FIFA World Cup 2026. But that hasn't stopped him from keeping up his fitness level with various exercises.

On June 26, Wijnaldum took to his Instagram account to share a few glimpses of his recent workout session with his followers. While one of the snaps displayed his ripped physique, the others showcased the various exercises he performed during the session.

The caption of his post also detailed his drive to stay in performing condition, regardless of when his next match is. It read, "Staying on track, one step at a time."

Here's the list of a few exercises that Wijnaldum can be spotted performing in the snaps of his post.

  • Weighted Crunches with a weight ball
  • Kneeling double-arm cable pulldown
  • Plank
  • Single-leg push-ups
  • Running on a treadmill

The final slide displayed that he also pays attention to rest after a session of intense training, as he was spotted resting in it.

Wijnaldum had the most glorious days of his career in the Liverpool jersey, helping the side win multiple crucial encounters. While he maintained a well-defined training regimen even then, his diet also played a massive role in his prowess on the pitch.

Things that Georginio Wijnaldum maintained regarding his diet while playing for Liverpool

Wijnaldum's skills were an asset for Liverpool FC, which is why the side's staff took special care to keep him in playing condition. Here are a few postulates that he maintained regarding his diet during his time in Liverpool.

  • Focusing on proteins and carbs: Wijnaldum used to consume foods with lean proteins like chicken, lamb, and fish, along with prioritizing complex carbohydrates like sweet potatoes, fresh pasta, and rice.
  • Staying away from sugar and sauces: Foods containing high sugar and sauces weren't on the list of allowed foods for Wijnaldum. He was advised to use alternatives, like molasses for sweetness.
  • Staying hydrated: Given the physical workload in soccer, Wijnaldum stayed under strict scrutiny regarding his hydration to avoid cramping and other issues. He sometimes consumed caffeine-induced juices at halftime as well.

Wijnaldum hasn't stopped putting in his efforts to stay in playing condition to date, and that shows in his performances for Al-Ettifaq in the Royal Saudi League.

But do you think he will make a comeback to the Netherlands national soccer team?
