EDM star Diplo's workout routine and training mindset to stay fit in his late 40s

While most DJs are busy trying to catch their breath in between songs, EDM star Diplo is squeezing in workouts. At 47, he relies on a fitness-first lifestyle that helps him fuel his energized late-night, high-energy performances.

He credits a great workout routine to his high energy levels, enabling him to perform like a superstar well into his late 40s. Although his $13 million Malibu home already has some of the best technologies: a hyperbaric chamber, cold plunge, and a sauna, he recently got another addition, a Peloton built in a Hypoxico altitude chamber.

Diplo’s daily workout routine is simple: calisthenics, yoga, swimming, running, and sauna. Speaking about his routine, Diplo said,

“Small movements. Getting my hamstrings open, a little bit of chest and bodyweight, but it’s mostly animal-style calisthenics."

A recent Men’s Health cover story shared how Diplo decided to stop training like a bodybuilder and changed his goals as he got older.

“When I was younger, I wanted to be massive. I’m not trying to be ripped now,” Diplo said, sharing that his workouts are now focused on preventing injury.

At 47, he now focuses on these things instead:

  • Zone 2 cardio (low-intensity endurance work that helps improve mitochondrial function)
  • Altitude training inside a Hypoxico altitude chamber with a Peloton inside
  • Regular swimming
  • Running (he founded Diplo’s Run Club in 2024)
  • Yoga
  • Boxing
  • Animal-style calisthenics
  • Surfing
  • Mobility work
  • Functional strength training

Of course, it goes without saying that training is just half of the equation. A proper recovery strategy is just as important to Diplo.

From cold plunges to mobility work: How Diplo prioritizes recovery

Diplo has designed his workout and recovery routine expertly. It not only focuses on helping him stay active and energized but also on remaining injury-free.

As per Men’s Health magazine, Diplo focuses on keeping his body moving, especially after long hours of rest (like long flights). He tries to squeeze in a 20-minute yoga session, even on planes.

Not just that, he also sometimes goes straight from the airport to the gym, always prioritizing his fitness over anything else.

Other recovery methods he enjoys include cold plunges and sauna sessions. These are designed to help his muscles relax, reduce soreness, and recover well, especially after training.

Diplo often vocalized the importance of mobility work, especially as you age. He engages in active stretching of the entire body as well as big-toe mobility drills that can help prevent injuries like plantar fasciitis.

Diplo may be one of the few celebrities who treat fitness and workout routines as a relaxation method rather than a chore. Which part of his routine would you want to try first?
