One of Germany’s standout defenders, Giulia Gwinn, is the captain of FC Bayern Women as well as the national team. The 26-year-old right-back played like a champ despite a recent shoulder injury while representing Germany against Austria. Now, as she recovers from a successful shoulder surgery, Gwinn shared her rehab training updates with fans on social media.

An Instagram post shared on July 5 by @fcbfrauen highlighted Gwinn’s rehab session at the FC Bayern Campus in Munich.

Captioned “Good rehab session at the Campus 💯📈,” the post highlights the continual rehab training Gwinn is undergoing.

In the Instagram post, her rehab training included exercises like full-body stretches, single-leg punching bag swings, and single-leg balance drills. It also featured resistance band hip flexion and other stability drills.

The rehab training focused on helping her recover from the recent shoulder injury that forced her to leave the national team camp during April.

After dislocating her left shoulder during the 5-1 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier win over Austria in Nuremberg, Germany, Gwinn underwent successful shoulder surgery on May 28, 2026.

Since then, she has been continually focusing on rehabilitation at the FC Bayern Campus.

Although FC Bayern Women is scheduled for a match in August, the DFB-Supercup Frauen against VfL Wolfsburg, it is unclear whether Gwinn will be able to participate.

Of course, Gwinn is no stranger to adversities in her professional and personal life. She has fought her way back from multiple injuries in the past, never allowing her setbacks to define her journey.

Gwinn's injury history: a pattern of resilience

Gwinn’s shoulder dislocation injury isn’t the first setback that she has faced in her career. However, her remarkable comebacks have been nothing but an inspiring proof of her resilience and a defining part of her journey.

Back in September 2020, Gwinn suffered her first ACL tear in her right knee during Germany's UEFA Women’s Euro qualifier, per FC Bayern Munich. The injury may have sidelined her for almost a year, but it did not stop her in any way.

In October 2022, she suffered a second right knee ACL tear, rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament while she was on international duty. This caused her to miss almost the entire 2022-23 season, including the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

2025 saw a lot of injuries for her, from a minor muscle issue in March to a medial knee ligament injury suffered during Germany’s UEFA Women’s Euro opener against Poland in July. Following the knee injury, she was diagnosed with an MCL injury in July 2025.

Most recently, she suffered a left shoulder dislocation during Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Austria in April 2026.

Despite the number of injuries and setbacks, Gwinn shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.
