Fernando Vargas Jr Shares Intense Boxing Training With Motivational Message

Fernando Vargas Jr. is pulling himself back up following his first pro career loss against Callum Walsh. The 29-year-old boxer is putting in a lot of effort in the gym currently, and he used glimpses from it to motivate his followers.

On July 12, Vargas Jr. shared an Instagram post that displayed a few instances of his journey to get better after his first loss. The Mexican-American boxer delved into an intense boxing workout session and shared snaps of the various activities he did in it.

The caption to his post was a motivational phrase implying that he was using the lessons from his first loss to be a better version of himself. It read, "Rock bottom will teach YOU lessons that mountain tops NEVER will. #GetbackSweeterThanTheSetBack."

Vargas Jr. suffered from a lack of footwork in his last fight against Callum Walsh, which became a major reason behind his loss. The 29-year-old also failed to put constant pressure on his opponent, as he kept hunting for a one-punch knockout.

The snaps in his Instagram post displayed that he had already started working on the drawbacks that cost him his undefeated record in September 2025. Here are the activities that he performed in the session.

  • Lateral shuffles (to improve footwork)
  • Two-In-Two-Out Drill
  • Running on a treadmill
  • Bosu ball single-leg balance
  • Sparring

Besides the activities, a few of the snaps also displayed Vargas Jr. prioritizing rest and recovery. One of them had him in a cold plunge.

Vargas also takes special care of his diet during the weight-cutting phase before his fights. He curtails his habit of partying and sticks to clean foods.

Fueling the Comeback: Vargas Jr.'s Disciplined Approach

Vargas Jr.'s walk-around weight stays around the 185 lbs mark, and he cuts down almost 30 lbs to fight in the 154 lbs weight class as a super welterweight.

However, the 29-year-old maintains a planned diet to shed enough pounds to make weight for his fights. While there's no information available in the public domain about the exact calorie count or amount of macronutrients in his daily meals, a September 2025 YouTube video from FightHype displayed one of his weight-cutting meals.

Among other stuff, Vargas Jr. prefers eating Chilaquiles during this time, which is a Mexican dish prepared with Mexican crema, crumbles cottija cheese, fried or scrambled eggs, diced avocados, and onions. In the same video, he mentioned eating chicken without salt to serve his purpose.

So, after learning how Vargas Jr. is working on his flaws, do you think he will return to the winning column in his next fight?
