Former NFL QB Russell Wilson posts father-son workout moment

Former NFL quarterback Russel Wilson, who retired this June, recently shared an Instagram video highlighting the importance of starting fitness early in life. The heartwarming video features Wilson with his two boys, Future Zahir Wilburn and Win Harrison Wilson, engaging in a fun training session together.

At just 5 and 12 years, the two boys joined their father not just for a family fitness session but also to learn something else. The session taught Future and Win consistency, discipline, and the value of showing up daily, even when work is hard.

“Real Currency," the caption on the video said.

The video features father and sons engaging in workouts like pull-ups, resistance band exercises, sprint work, pull-downs, medicine-ball throws, and running. Furthermore, Russell performs several drills on his own, which may be too challenging for the young boys. He engages in football-style movements designed to build endurance and strength.

He also performs several strength-training drills, showing his young boys the importance of fitness at any age.

The Instagram video by Russell suggests something deep. It shows that family bonds, shared experiences, and quality time with his children are more important and valuable than money.

While the video of Russell Wilson working out with his young sons beautifully illustrates the profound value he places on family connection over material success, it also reflects a larger, intentional way of living. At the core of his life are three unwavering pillars: Fitness, Family, and Faith.

Fitness, family, and faith: the pillars of Wilson’s lifestyle

Family, fitness, and faith are deeply connected for Russell. The veteran quarterback has always been vocal about how fitness does not make up a full, meaningful life.

“In terms of my legacy off the field, I want to be a Christian man that helps lead and helps change lives, and helps serve other people. It’s not about me, you know,” Wilson explained. “It’s not about me and it’s about just helping other people. So that’s kind of where I keep my focus,” he said as per Christian Post in 2015.

This was his motto back then, and it still is. His family training sessions and offseason workouts reflect his commitment to his family, proving how he tries to be a good father by leading by example. Furthermore, Russell has always been vocal about his relationship with God, putting Him at the center of all his decisions.

Soon after losing his father in 2010, he founded the Why Not You Foundation, curated to empower youth. His philanthropy has been recognized, earning him the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2021 and the Bart Starr Award in 2022.

His family training session offered a glimpse into his core values and principles. Have you ever engaged in family training sessions? Let us know in the comments.
