Hafthor Bjornsson lifts 282 kg for 3 reps and 3 sets on squats before promising heavy deadlifts on weekend
The Icelandic strongman, Hafthor Bjornsson, recently delved into a session of weighted squats with 282 kgs. While this may seem too much weight for many, Bjornsson called it a light session, considering what he was about to do on Saturday.
Bjornsson shared an Instagram post on June 19 that displayed his weighted squat session with 282 kgs. While the video accompanying his post featured him performing just a single set of 3 reps with the weight, the caption to his post disclosed that he actually went for 3 sets of 3 reps.
But that wasn't all, as the 37-year-old strongman also revealed that he would go for "heavy deadlifts" on "Saturday." However, he refrained from revealing the weight that he would deadlift on the weekend. The entire caption read, "Keeping it light before deadlift day. 282kg for 3 reps × 3 sets on squats. Heavy deadlifts coming Saturday."
Well, these training sessions of Bjornsson speak volumes about how he managed to amass a total of 62 career victories in the various individual and team events he has competed in to date.
The 37-year-old also secured the Triple Crown in 2018, which is widely considered one of the most prestigious achievements in the world of strongman contests. His distinguished feat consisted of two victories in the most noted strongman contests around the world, namely, the World's Strongest Man and the Arnold Strongman Classic.
Bjornsson coupled these victories with a win in the regional contest, Europe's Strongest Man, in 2018, which eventually earned him the Triple Crown.
After dominating traditional strongman competitions and securing the prestigious Triple Crown, Bjornsson brought his legendary strength to a new stage, the Enhanced Games.
How Was Bjornsson's Performance at the Enhanced Games?
Hafthor Julius Bjornsson came to Las Vegas chasing his own record. He left without it.
The 37-year-old strongman, best known for playing "The Mountain" on Game of Thrones, attempted a 515 kg deadlift at the inaugural Enhanced Games on Sunday at Resorts World. He fell short. Bjornsson currently holds the heaviest deadlift ever recorded: 510 kg, roughly 1,124 pounds. And this attempt was meant to push that mark even further.
However, the night did not go as planned. Bjornsson shared a video of the failed lift and addressed it directly on social media.
"Not tonight," he wrote. "But thank you all for the support, I truly appreciate every single one of you. Huge thanks to @maximilianbmartin and the @enhanced_games for putting up such an awesome event! First of many I hope!"
Furthermore, the Enhanced Games itself marked a new chapter in competitive strength sports.
Do you think Bjornsson breaks his own record next time? Tell us in the comments.
