How bodybuilders can spot early signs of heart problems & take necessary actions

Heart-related issues are becoming increasingly common among the masses. In fact, the British Heart Foundation reports that cardiovascular disease accounts for a quarter of all deaths in the UK. According to a Men’s Health article, London-based cardiologist Dr. Francesco Lo Monaco outlined early signs of heart problems that could help save a life.

He said, “Heart problems do not always begin with dramatic symptoms. In many cases, the body gives more subtle warning signs first, but people often dismiss them because they seem harmless or unrelated.”

Monaco highlighted the most overlooked signs of heart issues, which include:

  • Regular shortness of breath
  • Constant fatigue
  • Feeling of chest tightness or discomfort
  • Unexplained pain in the left arm

Generation Iron also includes additional vital points to consider for early detection of heart-related issues.

  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Problem in recovering after training
  • Unexplained swelling in the ankles and legs
  • Dizziness during physical work

Now, given the amount of stress that bodybuilders put their bodies through, they should be able to feel these symptoms much earlier than others if their heart is at risk.

So, everyone, including bodybuilders, must be very careful when these signs appear regularly and persist, because ignoring them can lead to serious cardiovascular issues developing beneath the surface.

Additionally, bodybuilders are prone to enlargement of the heart, cardiomyopathy, heart attacks, and arterial plaque buildup due to the constant use of performance-enhancing d****.

Apart from this, hypertension, extreme bulking, chronic strain, and intense training methods are among the other common reasons for high rates of cardiovascular issues in the bodybuilding community.

The important thing is knowing when to seek help and take the necessary steps.

Necessary actions to take

Dr. Lo Monaco suggests that, “‘If symptoms are new, worsening, or don’t feel normal for you, it’s important to seek medical advice rather than ignore them. Early assessment can help identify problems before they become more serious.”

Along with regular resistance training, proper nutrition, and cardio training, one must regularly check their blood pressure. Regular blood checks and cardiac screening will be very helpful in tracking warning signs.

Prevention is better than a cure, so seek help from an expert at the right time. Managing diet, training, stress, and regular checkups is the real way to prevent heart-related issues.

So, after learning all this, do you think you can spot the early symptoms of whether you have a heart problem or not?
