How Harrison Ford Maintains Physical Fitness and Mobility at 83

Harrison Ford has always been a rebel, whether it's fighting fanatic cult leaders as Indiana Jones or the odds of his age. More than four decades later since his Hollywood debut, Ford is still firing on all cylinders.

The 83-year-old first adopted a serious gym training regimen while shooting "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," after realising how much the protagonist had to be shirtless.

Speaking with Men's Health, his trainer, Jake Steinfeld, shared the workout routine he curated for Ford to build an athletic, functional build.

"We focused on different body parts depending on the day," he explained. "Monday, Thursday: chest and triceps. Tuesday, Friday: back and biceps. Wednesday, Saturday: shoulders and legs. Abs every day."

While that helped the actor bring Jones to life, his approach has inevitably changed in the past 40 years. Harrison Ford's focus has shifted from the shredded aesthetic to longevity.

"I believe in training for injury prevention more than anything else. I’m an old fart, and I need to protect myself," Ford jokingly said.

Moreover, his now long-time trainer, Jamie Milnes, prioritises core strength and full-body conditioning to stimulate strength and mobility.

The workouts can look like a mix between bodyweight exercises and medicine ball movements. Cardio remains a core pillar of his training philosophy. Beyond lifting weights, Ford can often be found cycling or playing tennis.

But his fitness philosophy isn't complete without the major dietary changes Ford made.

Why Harrison Ford Shifted To a Pescatarian Diet

Harrison Ford has often credited his healthy physique and vitality to intentional changes he made to his plate.

Speaking on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2023, he joked:

"[I’m eating] practically nothing. I eat vegetables and fish. It’s really boring."

This diet strongly aligns with the Mediterranean eating regimen, which is widely regarded as one of the healthiest diets worldwide. Moreover, he has cut out both meat and dairy as a healthier choice for his body and the planet.

"I just decided I was tired of eating meat, and I know it’s not really good for the planet and it’s not really good for me," the actor explained.

Another distinguishing factor in his lifestyle is Ford's love for cleaning up his house. He has called himself a "neat freak", adding that home cooking is a "pleasurable experience".

These small yet intentional changes, instead of intimidating training overhauls, continue to make a lasting impact on his fitness, keeping the engine running even at 83. What's a healthy lifestyle habit that you have?
