How King Charles III Trains to Strengthen His Legs at Age 77
Taking care of your health and fitness should always be a priority, no matter your age. At 77, King Charles III proves the importance of mobility and strength, especially for the lower body and legs. He shares his go-to exercises and a personal tip that helps him keep his legs strong and stay independent.
He reveals that he thoroughly enjoys walking, cycling, and horseback riding. During a conversation with sprinter Desiree Henry, King Charles III also shared that he “exercises twice a day,” his go-to exercises being squats and pull-ups. Moreover, he religiously follows the 11-minute Royal Canadian Force exercises plan, more commonly known as the 5BX.
"So what I found was to really improve your fitness and to get your legs really strong, [for] riding short – the best thing for it is to ride a bicycle without the saddle, no seat. It really works,” he shares.

King Charles III’s love for cycling goes beyond personal pleasure. In 2021, the royal took part in a charity race, kickstarting the British Asian Trust’s ‘Palaces on Wheels’ event. However, it is interesting to note that he completed the entire race suited up.
Alongside daily exercises, King Charles III indulges in healthy, wholesome meals that consist entirely of homegrown vegetables and organic produce.
Inside King Charles III’s Healthy Diet
King Charles III has been an advocate for sustainability for years now. He ensures that this principle is reflected in his daily diet as well. His typical meals feature fresh, organic vegetables and produce. He avoids garlic, chocolates, and coffee.
"For years I haven’t eaten meat and fish on two days a week, and I don’t eat dairy products on one day a week,” he revealed to the BBC.
However, he enjoys having one boiled egg with each of his meals, shared Graham Tinsley MBE, Welsh Culinary Team’s former manager.
The monarch not only maintains a beautiful garden where he grows his own produce, but also keeps chickens at Highgrove House, their Gloucestershire family home. Fresh eggs are always on the menu for His Majesty. According to the official Instagram page of Clarence House, one of his favorite brunch recipes is the famous cheese-baked eggs.
Moreover, he enjoys nuts and seeds for breakfast, which is quite a protein-packed and healthy choice for the monarch.
Although it was famously revealed that the King doesn’t eat lunch, he changed that habit after his cancer diagnosis in 2024. However, he eats just half an avocado for lunch, which isn’t a huge change.
Another fun quirk about King Charles III is that he requires a side salad with every meal, along with a coddled egg. He enjoys having a peeled egg beneath the salad leaves, which he mashes with a fork to make a type of dressing.
King Charles III’s fitness regimen and diet are nothing short of an inspiration to all. Do you think you will continue working out well into your 70s? Let us know in the comments section.
