How LeBron James, Jarred Vanderbilt & others are training for the Lakers' 2026 playoff games
As the 2026 NBA playoffs approach, the Los Angeles Lakers are preparing physically and strategically. So, here is a look at how the Lakers are training for the 2026 playoffs.
Although training during the playoffs is usually focused on keeping the performance of players like LeBron James in check, reducing fatigue, and improving skills, some key Lakers are taking their physical training into account.
The playoff preparations focus on improving physical readiness and strategic refinement. Training intensity is lower, and precision, recovery, and execution are increased.
The Lakers shared a video of the team preparing for the playoffs, showing various training routines. Team practices during playoffs are shorter but strategic. Mostly, the emphasis is on set plays, defensive rotations, and late-game execution.
Heavy lifting is generally reduced as more focus lies on maintenance work. The workout includes resistance training, core stability training, and injury prevention routines. The goal is to keep players physically fit while reducing fatigue.
If we talk about the Lakers' star player, LeBron James, his preparation is focused more on load management and recovery. Being in his 40s, his routine is all about mobility, strength, and high-efficiency on-court drills.
"I'm trying to maximize, how could I be in optimal shape and game-ready for the next day. I'm always thinking about the next day," James told Steve Nash during the second episode of Mind the Game: Season 2. His playoff routine includes:
- Spider-Man Crawl (1 set of 10 to 12 reps)
Warmup
- Versa Climber (3 sets of 30 seconds each)
Strength Training:
- Inverted Row (3 sets of 8 to 10 reps)
- Landmine Rotational Press (3 sets of 8 to 12 reps)
- Multi-Planar Lunge (3 sets of 3 rounds)
- Cable Lateral Chop (3 sets of 10 reps)
On the other hand, Luka Doncic usually focuses on conditioning and skill repetition. His training routine is mostly focused on conditioning and endurance. His routine includes:
- Resistance drills
- Weight training
- Shooting
- Romanian deadlifts
- Dumbbell bench presses
- Lateral bounds
- Pickle ball

The workout focuses on functional movements, strength training, and cardio to maintain the overall health of the body without needing the gym. The best part is that the workout will be over in 20 minutes.
- Farmer’s walk with shoulder shrugs (walk for 30 seconds)
- Bodyweight or dumbbell squats (10 reps)
- Lateral lunge with chop (10 reps per side)
- Traveling pull-ups (6 to 8 reps)
- Dumbbell push press (4 to 6 reps)
- Plank with shoulder taps (Hold a plank position for 30 to 45 seconds)
- High-intensity cardio (30 seconds on, 30 seconds off)
