Being able to construct a competitive bodybuilding physique takes lots of effort, but maintaining a similar physique after retirement is an entirely different challenge.

Some of the greatest bodybuilders are proof that discipline doesn’t end with retirement. These athletes have continued their routines and just transitioned from being competition-driven to being longevity-focused.

Nowadays, these icons are into lighter workouts, functional training, and holistic wellness, which has enabled them to maintain impressive physiques years after retiring from competitive bodybuilding.

Still, they continue to impress their fans with their consistency and are proof that with smart training, anyone can sustain strength and muscle into later life.

Bodybuilding Legends Who Still Maintain an Impressive Physique After Retiring

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a 7x Mr. Olympia champion who remains one of the most pioneering figures in fitness. Even in his 70s, he works out regularly and has maintained a lean and muscular physique. He combines weight training and cycling to maintain his muscle mass and cardiovascular health.

Ronnie Coleman

The 8x Mr. Olympia is known for his incredible strength. Although injuries and surgeries restricted him to using crutches and forced him to reduce the intensity of his workouts, he still manages to train with lighter weights and rehabilitation exercises.

Jay Cutler

In his prime, Jay Cutler was famous for his impressive quads and aesthetic physique, and he still maintains that figure by training five to six days per week.

Dorian Yates

Dorian Yates is credited with redefining the ‘mass monster’ era in the 1990s. But now, he has shifted to a more holistic fitness approach. His current routine includes both physical and mental training with a blend of HIIT, yoga, and meditation.

Lee Haney

Considered to be one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time and the only other person to win the Mr. Olympia eight times, Lee Haney still rocks a fit body today. His secret lies in blending strength training with cardio and following a healthy lifestyle.

Rich Gaspari

Rich Gaspari was the pioneer of the shredded bodybuilding look in the 1980s and the winner of the first Arnold Classic in 1989. Long after retiring from competition, he has still managed to maintain a muscular and lean physique. He credits his functional training and a disciplined low-carb diet for keeping his body fat low.

Samir Bannout

Samir Bannout, known as the “Lion of Lebanon,” impressed the bodybuilding world after he won the 1983 Mr. Olympia. And even 43 years after winning, he continues to train by blending bodybuilding and powerlifting techniques. His focus is to maintain strength and muscle definition.

While all of these noted icons are still in good shape, who do you think would take the top spot in this category?
