Islam Makhachev spotted running amidst mountains as training camp begins for Ian Garry fight
UFC Welterweight champ, Islam Makhachev, will be defending his title next against Conor McGregor's countryman, Ian Machado Garry, at UFC 330 on August 15. And the Dagestani fighter has already started gearing up for the fight.
On June 22, an Instagram update from BUKA Boxing provided UFC fans with an update about Makhachev's training for his upcoming encounter against Garry. It displayed the reigning welterweight champ going for an uphill run on a recent morning, alongside his training partner and friend, and 10-0 record-holding PFL fighter, Ibragim Ibragimov.
"Leveling up every day," said the caption.
Makhachev rarely gasses out, a cardio edge built on runs like this one. While there are other exercises behind this, running also majorly helps him maintain his cardio, which allows him to chase submissions even in the fifth round of his fights.
The UFC welterweight champion also delves into a lot of fight-specific activities. Fans may have witnessed striking or grappling videos of him with the former UFC lightweight champ and his close friend, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, strength and conditioning training is also a pivotal part of Makhachev's pre-fight training. So, here's a look at the specifications of his general training routine. He posted his morning strength training routine on Instagram in March 2026
- Clap push-ups: 3 sets of 15 reps
- Close-grip bench press: 3 sets of 6 reps with 90 kg
- Squats: 3 sets of 5 reps with 90kg
- Deadlifts: 3 sets of 5 reps with 90kg
- Romanian deadlift: 3 sets of 8 reps with 60 kg
- Pull-ups: 3 sets of 10 reps
- Bicep curls: 3 sets of 15 reps with a 15 kg dumbbell, followed by 3 sets of 5 reps with 40 kg
Rest after each exercise: 2 minutes
Besides all this, the Dagestani also takes special care of his diet during his training camps.
Islam Makhachev's diet during pre-fight training camps
Makhachev's diet changes to a well-planned one without junk food as soon as he enters fight camp.
According to Supersoldierproject, Makhachev fulfills the required amount of macronutrients during his training camps with the following foods:
- Carbs: Oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice, bananas
- Proteins: Chicken, turkey, steak, salmon, eggs, protein shakes
- Greens: Kale, spinach
- Fats: Avocados, olive oil
With such a well-specified diet and workout regimen, it's no wonder that he dominates his rivals inside the octagon.
But do you think his upcoming UFC 330 fight against Machado Garry will also end similarly, with a victory for him?
