The rivalry between Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler is one of the most dramatic in Mr. Olympia history. Although the rivalry ended years ago, the tales remain famous in the bodybuilding community.

One of the friendly trash-talking scenes from Mr. Olympia 2004 was shared by Cutler on his Instagram account on June 13, where the 8-time Mr. Olympia and the 4-time Mr. Olympia were seen flexing their power with words.

In the clip, Cutler was seen saying, “You know, I have great respect for Ronnie, but you know, people say this guy is unbeatable, and I don't agree with that. Everyone's beatable on a certain day.”

When the interviewer conveyed Cutler's message to Coleman, he reacted,

“Jay Cutler's smoking crack, and he ain't in his right mind.”

Even in the next scene, when another interviewer asked Coleman about the situation there, Coleman replied with a smile, “It's a war going on around here.”

Cutler immediately highlights that The King had been winning the Mr. Olympia title for the last 6 years, from 1998 to 2003, so, according to the 4-time Mr. Olympia, it was his time.

Cutler said, “But this is my town, my home, my place”.

Coleman, with his King attitude, reacted, “Well, your home has just been invaded…. I'm invading your hometown, buddy.”

Cutler was confident that with his abs and thighs, he would defeat Ronnie that year. However, despite showing up with an impressive package and massive size, Cutler failed to defeat Coleman in 2004.

That year, Coleman competed at his heaviest weight, 296 lbs. By contrast, Cutler's weight was between 260 and 265 lbs.

Although Cutler outperformed Coleman in the front relaxed poses due to an impressive midsection, Coleman was a clear winner in the side and rear poses.

Apart from that, Coleman's famous Christmas tree in the lower back, intense glute-hamstring development, and deep leg striation were unmatched.

Although Coleman earned his 7th Mr. Olympia title in 2004, Cutler soon regained his momentum in 2006.

When Jay Cutler defeated Ronnie Coleman

It was 2006 when Cutler’s dream of defeating Coleman became a reality.

Historically, the King’s back was unmatched; however, in 2006, it looked shrunken. That year, Cutler appeared with a massive, improved physique, specifically a back considered his best.

By that year, Coleman was suffering from hip and intense back pain, and for many, it affected his conditioning.

Talking about Coleman, Cutler said, “He’s the greatest ever, I’ll go on record. We all sit here and look at bodybuilders and who we admire; this guy was my idol. So for me to come up and have him as my idol and then become a rival, and then of course have to beat him.

When I did beat him, I felt bad because not only did I beat him, but he was going for record number nine at the time… So I held (him) from that happening. He was going to break that record, and I was the first guy to defeat Mr. Olympia onstage, never been done in history, still to this day.”
