Joseph Baena Reveals 500-Cal Breakfast for Lean Muscle Gains

Apr 2, 2026, 2:38 PM CUT

Joseph Baena is carving his own path in bodybuilding. After a major competition win, Arnold Schwarzenegger's son revealed the 500-calorie breakfast that fueled his debut.

After winning the NPC Natural Colorado competition in multiple categories, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son, Joseph Baena, is preparing for his next journey.

On March 30, he posted a recipe for a meal on his Instagram. The post reads, “It’s not really a bodybuilder breakfast, but it’s the breakfast that I've been eating every day in preparation for my first bodybuilding competitions.”

The post continues, “Results come from consistency, and this breakfast takes 10 minutes to make, which makes it easy to prepare every day! Simple, easy, and delicious.” The recipe requires the following ingredients:

  • 3 whole eggs
  • Spinach
  • Oatmeal
  • Berries
  • 2 tablespoon kimchi
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon

This well-balanced and nutritional recipe serves:

  • Protein - ~51g
  • Carbs - ~40-45g
  • Fat - ~15g
  • Calories - ~500

This isn’t the first time he shared his muscle-prepping food recipes. On March 25, Baena shared a recipe for chicken and rice on his Instagram. He captioned the video “Chicken rice and everything nice.”

The post further reads, “As we approach our goal, this, and the ground beef plate are really the only things I’ve been eating the last couple of weeks. On this first prep, I’ve come to realize that the consistency is really the key to getting lean and not losing muscle, only a couple of days away, and I’m feeling great!”

The Austrian Oak son’s recipe takes only 15-20 min to cook, and the ingredients are pretty simple, which include:

  • Rice
  • Chicken
  • Mixed greens
  • Asparagus
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Mustard
  • Avocado
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika
  • Pepper

However, diet was only part of the prep for his natural bodybuilding debut. Now he's already looking ahead.

Joe Baena is preparing to compete again

On March 30, Joe posted a story where he was wearing a full-sleeve, baggy pullover and shorts. Baena wrote on the story, “1 show down 1 more to go.”

The next day, Baena posted another story on his Instagram, showing him doing heavy dumbbell bicep curls. Even before his first competition, he was seen training with his father at the gym.

On March 24, Joe posted a carousel of photos on his Instagram, captioned “You have to shock the muscles!”, showing him doing bicep curls with an EZ bar and plates while being supervised by his father.

This combination of diet and training is positioning him for his next competition.
