Julie Andrews, 90, stays fit and healthy with fitness rules that should inspire everyone

Julie Andrews has shown that people in their 90s can maintain their fitness, health, and vitality by focusing on a balanced lifestyle and consistency. And she follows a set of rules to live healthily, even at this age.

So, what are the rules that the English actress goes by? Let's take a look.

Morning activities

In a 1996 interview with chat show host Rosie O'Donnell, the three-time Emmy Award winner opened up about her morning routine that she follows before any stage performance.

According to her, she follows:

  • 45 minutes of stretching
  • Ballet barre
  • Aerobic

Andrews said, “You know, all the things I know work for me”. According to experts, after a long night's sleep, it is important to stretch in the morning.

Hinge Health’s physical therapist, Claudia Canales, said, “When we are asleep…. blood flow to our muscles decreases due to a decrease in heart rate, and lastly, our muscles typically experience a decrease in tone, and thus some may remain in a shortened position”. Morning stretching helps mitigate these effects.

Consistent with her routine

Another major factor that contributes to Andrews' fitness journey is her approach to consistently following a routine.

Once, she told Business Insider that she always follows a routine. For instance, she still makes a protein-rich breakfast for her children and the family to have dinner together.

Andrews added, “We also designated one night a week family night and went out to a favorite restaurant together”. It makes her happy, and happiness always supports good health.

Julie Andrews ' protein diet

The Princess Diaries actress also maintains a healthy diet, and one of her favorite recipes is carrot cake.

She added tofu to the cake and avoids sugar as a topping, which helps her maintain her protein intake.

Andrews once admitted, “I am very strict with myself. I have a very high-protein diet, and I have to maintain this to have a decent sugar count. So I keep to it for health reasons as well as the usual beauty ones. I find that I’m much more energetic when I keep to it, so it’s obviously good for me."

So, these are the approaches Andrews has followed over the years to maintain her fitness. Are you also thinking about incorporating them into your lifestyle?
