Kurt Angle's workout routine and fitness evolution through the years

Olympic gold medalist turned pro wrestler, Kurt Angle, is known for his extreme dedication and resilience. He proved his strength and passion by winning the 1996 Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling, even with a broken neck.

An interesting aspect of Angle’s training philosophy is how he has consistently changed and molded his workouts according to his career or life goals. He trained with an entirely different intensity for the Olympics than he did as a pro wrestler.

At the peak of his career, Angle even admitted to working out ten hours each day, with no rest days in between.

“I used to work out for 10 hours a day at the peak of my professional career. I never took a day off," he told Man's World in 2017. "My morning workout consisted of a mile-long warm-up run. I would then find the steepest hill in my area and do a 200-yard sprint up and down the hill. Sometimes, I used to sprint with my partner on my back."

But that was just half of Angle's routine. He then continued training well through the day till late evening.

"Then, I would be on the bike for 40 minutes, after which I would jump rope for 40 minutes before getting into the sauna. My four-hour afternoon workout revolved around wrestling training, including live wrestling, technique training, calisthenics, core training, and conditioning. I finished the day off with a two-hour session that included plyometrics and strength training," he added.

Now, Angle has finally given up strength training and focuses more on endurance training and maintenance.

Of course, Angle’s success was not merely built on training- his disciplined nutrition played an equally crucial role in helping him excel as a pro wrestler and an Olympic champ.

How Kurt Angle fueled his body for a legendary career

Kurt Angle has led an impressive career. From being a four-time WWE champion, an Olympic Gold medalist, a five-time TNA World Heavyweight champion, and even a Grand Slam WWE Champ, Angle has had it all.

Fueling his incredible career and achievements is a brilliant diet plan. Contrary to popular belief, Angle doesn’t follow a super restrictive or strict diet. He admitted that he generally eats whatever he wants, as he would anyway burn off the calories with his intense workouts.

However, he typically tends to stick to a low-carb, high-protein diet. As he told Man's World in 2017, breakfast consisted of a 12-egg egg-white omelette, salmon, and fresh fruit. He then took a mid-morning protein shake, followed by three chicken breasts for lunch, along with five ounces of rice.

He has yet another protein shake during mid-afternoon, followed by vegetables, salad, salmon, and two more protein shakes before bed. It is clear that Angle really prioritized hitting his protein goals. He even admitted to eating every two hours to energize his body.

Angle’s commitment to his training and career is simply extraordinary. Have you ever heard of any other athlete training ten hours a day?
