Lindsey Vonn begins regular gym workouts in injury recovery

Lindsey Vonn's scary crash at the Milano Cortina 2026 Games left many worried about whether she would fully recover. However, the 3x Olympic medalist has already started hitting the gym and is steadily approaching full recovery.

On June 17, Vonn shared an Instagram update showing her performing several exercises in the gym, which put stress on her injured knee. Still, the 41-year-old carried on without any trouble, which spoke volumes about her progress in recovery.

The caption to her post told more about her mental state regarding being able to work out without worries. Vonn penned, "The face I make when I can actually work out in the gym. Makes me so happy and excited I can’t even put it into words."

Initially, she ruptured her left ACL on January 30 this year during her World Cup run in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Before her tragic Olympic crash, 41-year-old Vonn stunned the world. Returning from a five-year retirement with a partial knee replacement, she dominated the circuit with seven podiums, including two brilliant downhill victories.

But while this injury put her participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics in jeopardy, Vonn kept up her hopes and shared an Instagram post that read, "My Olympic Dream is not over. Thank you all for the love and support."

While she turned this into a reality by participating in Milano Cortina, the outcome worsened as she suffered another crash during her downhill run on February 8. This time, the consequences were far more severe as Vonn had to be airlifted after the crash.

Similarly, the injuries that she sustained were also much more concerning.

Injuries sustained by Lindsey Vonn from her Winter Olympics crash and her journey to full recovery

Vonn started her Milano Cortina downhill run on February 8 in full confidence despite having a ruptured left ACL. However, things soon turned south as she clipped a gate just seconds into her run while trying to execute a right turn.

The cheering crowd turned silent after her crash, as the race had to be halted for over 10 minutes following her crash. Vonn's condition was such that she had to be flown to the Codivilla Hospital in Cortina for medical evaluation.

The crash left the 41-year-old with a complex tibia fracture, a fibular head fracture, a tibial plateau fracture, and, most concerningly, compartment syndrome, which posed the threat of amputation.

Vonn underwent a six-hour surgery to fix her injuries, which also included a fasciotomy. She later appreciated her doctor for saving her left leg from amputation.

Following weeks of moving around with crutches, Vonn shared an Instagram post on March 6 that displayed her in the gym for the first time since her surgery.

And according to her Instagram post highlighted earlier, Vonn has also started performing exercises like Bulgarian split squats and chin-ups in the gym, which suggests that she is nearing complete recovery.

Well, even if Vonn does recover completely, do you think that she will return to the ice, considering she is 41 already?
