Mexican footballer shows how small habits create big results
Big wins aren’t always the result of big moves. Sometimes, it’s the little things you do daily. Mexican footballer Guillermo Ochoa proved that he doesn’t need a dramatic schedule to level up his game. Small daily habits have helped him achieve big results, like becoming the first goalkeeper to appear in six FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Ochoa posted an Instagram video on July 27, 2026, highlighting his simple gym routine. His message is clear: you don’t need to go big to deliver results. Simple, consistent habits in the gym are all it takes. His gym routine consists of pull-ups, treadmill running, push-ups, shoulder dumbbell variations, overhead cable extensions, high-to-low cable wood chop, and trunk rotation with plates.
"High performance starts with the small habits you practice every day. 🏋🏻🏃🏻♂️➡️🏝️,” Ochoa captioned the Instagram video, originally translated from Spanish.
Ochoa, who played the final match of his professional career during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helped Mexico seal a 3-0 win over Czechia at Estadio Azteca on June 24, 2026. He builds peak performance through consistent effort, not overnight success.

The Instagram video showcased Ochoa’s mindset even after announcing his professional retirement – the training should never stop.
Of course, Ochoa’s healthy habits don’t end at the gym. He follows a disciplined diet to stay match-ready at all times to meet the demands of any match.
Small habits, smart nutrition: Inside Guillermo Ochoa’s match-ready diet
Ochoa’s small, consistent habits go beyond the gym, following him all the way to his dinner table.
During an interview with Excelsior, Beatriz Boullosa, the nutritionist in charge of the Mexican National Team’s meal planning, revealed his typical diet.
Boullosa explained the most important aspect of proper diet planning: ensuring athletes' food isn't drastically changed from what they're used to in their home countries.
“The national teams that are coming have radically different diets. You shouldn't change what they're used to. We traveled with tons of flour to make corn tortillas, with absolutely every sauce you can imagine, and also with many processed products that are good for high performance,” he explained.
His typical diet included:
- Eggs
- Beans
- Corn tortillas
- Pasta and rice
- Hamburgers
- Pizza
- Milk
For Ochoa, long-term performance and success depend on the small, daily habits he repeats. What is one daily habit that has made a world of difference to your life?
