Mike O’Hearn Trains With UFC Contender Ian Machado Garry

A recent video posted by Mike O’Hearn on his Instagram account features UFC fighter Ian Machado Garry training with O’Hearn. However, it wasn’t the actual training session that made the video viral. Hilariously, Garry can be seen delivering an explosive low-leg kick on O’Hearn- but it doesn’t seem to have a massive effect on the latter.

The punchline of the video revolves around O’Hearn’s massive physique and strength. In the video, Garry's previous opponent was taken down effortlessly by the calf kick. However, even someone as strong as O’Hearn seems to slightly lose his footing upon receiving the blow. It just goes to show how Garry’s MMA abilities can have an effect even on someone as massive as O’Hearn.

O’Hearn, who is known for his quick wit and humor, responds hilariously to @alanjouban’s comment. “D*** bro. That could’ve been bad,” Jouban comments. However, O’Hearn is quick to turn the comment around, saying, “No, his foot was safe. I didn’t flex.” The hilarious comment highlights both his strength and his sense of humor in all situations.

Garry, who holds an impressive MMA record of 17 wins and just 1 loss, is a powerful contender nonetheless. However, O’Hearn, who is known for following a strict diet, workout routine, and recovery program, still stands strong against his contender.

A Peek Into Mike O’Hearn’s Impressive Workout and Diet

O’Hearn has maintained an astonishingly ripped physique throughout his career. In fact, his incredible physique is so impressive that he is often called out for being a “fake natty”.

However, he credits his impressive physique, power, and strength to a highly disciplined lifestyle from a young age. In an interview with Fitness Volt, he shares how he was the youngest among all his siblings, all of whom were powerlifters or bodybuilders.

“Being the youngest boy, I was usually the punching bag. So you tell me if I didn’t start [training], what the h*** was I going to do?” he reflects on his childhood.

He follows an incredibly strict, nutrient-dense diet that consists primarily of carbs and protein.

“First and foremost, I focus on food intake — that’s the foundation — but I’m a huge proponent of supplements. I take HTP, calcium-magnesium-zinc, branched-chain amino acids.”

Four-time Mr. “Natural” Universe admits he loves eating ice cream and Nutella; however, he doesn’t cheat on his diet often. His typical diet consists of-

  • White rice
  • Salmon
  • Vitamins
  • Chicken
  • Oatmeal
  • Steak
  • Salads

However, O’Hearn admits that it took a lot of trial and error to come up with the ‘perfect’ diet for himself, and it may not work for everyone else.

“My diet works great for me, but it may not work for anyone else. My recommendation is to try different things; you’ll find what works.”

When it comes to training, O’Hearn trains five days a week, targeting large muscle groups on each day. Furthermore, he admits to never using suits, straps, wraps, and belts during his workouts.

Garry and O’Hearn may come from completely different worlds; however, their training and discipline prove the power of consistency and aim.
