Mike Sommerfeld has found redemption. After failing to qualify for the 2026 Arnold Classic and Detroit Pro, the German bodybuilder won the 2026 Arnold Classic UK. The victory now positions him as a top contender for the Mr. Olympia title.

This time, he not only won the 2026 Arnold Classic UK Classic Physique division but also defeated the champion from the last two competitions where Sommerfeld was absent.

After winning the competition, he gave an emotional speech that was posted by BTS TV on its Instagram on March 28, captioning: “winning speech🥹. An incredible performance and win”.

He said, “As an athlete, you always want to deliver your absolute best. And we worked really hard to deliver that today. And I appreciate all of you guys for your support.

I want to give a big thanks to Arnold Sports for creating such an amazing event. The IFBB Pro League, who provided the stage for us to let us shine. And on top, of course, my team, my lovely wife, and my coach.”

The German bodybuilder continued by saying, “You can't imagine how hard we worked to step on the stage today. But we made it, and we had an amazing time, so thank you, guys”.

And there is no doubt that he worked hard to get on the stage. Although he was considered a potential winner for the Arnold Classic competition this year, he failed to make the weight limit for the Classic Physique division in Columbus, Ohio.

Even for Detroit Pro, he miscalculated the time and failed to register.

So, when he got the chance at Birmingham, he did not let it go. But the competition was intense. Wesley Vissers appeared more conditioned than he was in Columbus. Vissers' legs and lats improved, and he held incredible side and rear poses, which were Sommerfeld’s strengths.

Even after the pre-judging, these two were clearly at the top of the chart. However, after a final pose-down, Sommerfeld beat Vissers and became a frontrunner for the 2026 Mr. Olympia.

While Sommerfeld celebrated redemption, Vissers had nothing but true respect for the competition that unfolded.

After the competition, Vissers shared his thoughts on Instagram.

He said, “he absolutely deserved it, there's no doubt about it. Of course, people always have their preferences, and I would have loved to win, but if you look at pure bodybuilding criteria, he was more conditioned, more complete from the back”.

Later, he admitted that no matter how much competition you win, you can still be better.

Taking the situation positively, he said, “I still got second place at the Arnold UK and I'm still one of the best in the world, and we are gonna battle for the Olympia, that is for sure”.

Praising the winner, Vissers said, “Mike did it, he proved everybody wrong. He had to make weight, he made weight, he looked great. he looked better than everybody thought. And now we're gonna enjoy some good steak”.
