Milos Sarcev Calls Out Men’s Physique Bodybuilding Rules for Not Showing Leg Muscles

Milos Sarcev thinks the Men's Physique division is missing out on a detail essential to bodybuilding.

Sarcev appeared on Jay Cutler's podcast, Cutler Cast, and among several topics they discussed Men's Physique division of IFBB. Milos Sarcev offered a mixed critique of the Men’s Physique division.

While he supported its core idea of creating a more aesthetic, attainable look instead of building the traditional extreme sizes, his issue was with the way the division is judged. According to him, the evaluation criteria don't include all the standards of a complete physique.

"Nobody wants to be like super jacked. But what this has to do with bringing shorts into the category and allowing hiding the legs. 50% of your body is hidden. That's ridiculous."

The Men’s Physique division focuses on a lean, athletic, and aesthetically pleasing “beach body” to make bodybuilding more mainstream, while still upholding the basic criteria of muscle development. Special emphasis is laid on broad shoulders, a tight waist, and visible but not enormous muscles.

Although the Serbian bodybuilder respects the Men's Physique competitors, he thinks emphasizing complete development and better posing routines reflects a balanced, competitive physique. His comments received some backlash later, with many critiquing his take. Although he stood his ground, he later gave a full explanation of his comments.

"Men's Physique guys are just a cast by the builders[sic] training hard in the gym and everything else, but for whatever reason, they were given an outlet to change their upper body. Somebody came up with the stupid idea of covering their legs even with beach shorts, and now anybody who sees says he looks like a beach boy."

His main concern is the use of beach shorts, which hide the legs, enabling the bodybuilders to not focus on their legs, which are half of their development. He also expressed his issues with limited and repetitive posing, noting that it prevents proper evaluation of the body.

Jay Cutler Has a Different Opinion

Milos Sarcev may have spoken his mind on Jay Cutler's show, but the four-time Mr. Olympia has a different approach, and it is completely different from Sarcev's.

On April 8, 2026, Cutler appeared on the Raw Talk podcast with Bradley Martyn, and during his time there, he gave his opinion on the Men's Physique division.

“Men’s Physique, which Men’s Physique, honestly, the division you were doing in the beginning, is the biggest division worldwide. Those guys don’t get a lot of credit because they have to wear board shorts.”

He added, “They’ve tightened them up, and they’ve shortened them up, but those guys are paving the whole fitness aura of bodybuilding because it’s so popular worldwide. I don’t discredit that. So, like I think those guys, listen, Brad, I think they all work hard.”

Do you agree with Sarcev or Cutler?
