101-Year-Old WW II Veteran’s Consistent Gym Routine and Fitness Rules

The World War II veteran, who turned 101 in 2026, still thrills fitness enthusiasts and young gym-goers with his enthusiasm and his consistent visits to the gym.

The veteran in question is Joseph Caminiti.

On May 1, the Instagram account of Ladbible celebrated the power of the veteran by posting an image of him working out at Caminiti, with the caption, “Joseph Caminiti, a World War II veteran and survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima, is still working out five days a week at the age of 100. 💪"

"He drives himself to the gym for hour-long sessions combining cardio and weights, and lives independently with his 98-year-old wife."

According to the post, the rule for the veteran's longevity is, “You’ve got to exercise. You’ve got to keep going. You’ve got to keep moving.”

He once said, “If you see me, you wouldn’t think I was 100. Everywhere I go, they (say), You’re not 100 years old. And I say, That’s what I am.”

Caminiti was born in 1924 in West Virginia to a large family of 8 children. The fitness enthusiast joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17.

In addition to World War 2, he also served in the US Army during the Korean War.

While Caminiti's story motivates millions of gym-goers, the veteran has focused on his fitness since childhood.

Joseph Caminiti’s active lifestyle started long ago

Caminiti started going to a gym when he was 12. At that time, he took help from a paper route that used to take him to the Boys Club.

Currently, the veteran visits the gym 5 days a week, Monday through Friday. Some of his workout routines are:

  • Treadmill for 30 to 40 minutes
  • Train his legs on the weight machine
  • Arm exercise
  • Some other movements for other body parts
  • In the end, Caminiti takes a hydra massage to relax

He once admitted, “Some people get a trainer to show them what they want to do, but at my age, I don’t need a trainer. I’ve been going to the gym since I was a kid. Nothing needs to motivate me. I just go… I love it”.

His son, William, once told Today.com that Caminiti loves going to the gym.
