Ronnie Coleman Explains The Importance of Mindset Before Every Lift at the Gym- “Ten Easy Reps”

Ronnie Coleman didn't accomplish the staggering 800 lbs squats with just his physical strength. He recently revealed how big a role the mental framework of an individual plays in powering them through such intense training sessions.

On June 14, Coleman took his Instagram followers back to his prime days, where everything was "lightweight" for him. While his post displayed him going for ten reps of weighted front squats with a whopping 505 lbs, its caption detailed his thoughts on how the mind also needs to be dialed in for such lifts.

"You have to get your mind right before every lift!! " Coleman penned. "Ten easy reps on the front squat with 505 Light Weight pounds….Yeah Buddy!!!"

Coleman was known for his habit of intense weight training, peaking at his insane 2,300 lbs leg press, which holds the record for the second heaviest leg press ever recorded. Such startling workouts required more than Coleman's physical strength.

According to 'The King,' it's important for an individual to commit fully to a task (lifting) mentally and physically to accomplish it in the best possible way, without worrying about the limitations.

Well, Coleman's unthinkably heavy lifts don't leave much room to doubt his ways. But a study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology also supports his views. It says that the brain has a capacity to overcome its own limitations.

Additionally, this isn't the first time that Coleman has emphasized the importance of getting the mind dialed in, besides the body. His views have been supported by one of his archrivals as well.

Ronnie Coleman's opponent supported his narrative

While Coleman provided advice about dedicating the mind to workouts in the aforementioned Instagram post, he made a massive claim regarding the same issue in a different post on Instagram.

Given that Coleman is an 8x Mr. Olympia, not many would like to doubt his views in this regard. Even his archrival and the 4x Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler, echoed his take in a different way.

In a 2022 post on Jay Cutler's official Facebook page, Cutler disclosed that he gets questioned about how much swing can be maintained during lifting. The 4x Mr. Olympia stressed the mind-body connection to answer the query, sharing Coleman's take.

"I always have my mind locked into the muscle. I'm feeling how the muscles are actually working," said Cutler. "So, I don't look at, sometimes, how much my body is moving because I'm getting the work done. I'm feeling my muscles."

Overall, both the bodybuilding legends emphasized the same thing; the results are the best when the mind is also dialed in to the workout sessions, besides the muscles in the body.

After knowing all this, will you also be more attentive and mentally involved in your workout sessions?
