62-Year-Old Ronnie Coleman, Hitting the Gym Despite Multiple Surgeries, Inspires the Bodybuilding World

Ronnie Coleman may not be competing anymore, but that hasn't stopped him from amazing his fans.

The 62-year-old just gave his fans another reminder of why he is respected so much. On May 11, he shared a video of himself on Instagram in the gym performing a simple bench press. But what was astonishing to see was that, even after retiring from professional bodybuilding and facing multiple health issues, his dedication to maintaining a fit lifestyle hasn't changed.

The video captioned with his famous quote, 'Yeah Buddy, Light Weight Baby!! That’s how we do it in the FLEX!!' showed the 62-year-old in the gym, leaning back and performing multiple reps of the bench press. Despite his age, his form was intact, and he performed each rep with ease.

The weights were much lighter than what he was used to in his prime. That's because over the years, Coleman faced several health issues. 8-time Mr. Olympia underwent 13 major surgeries since 2007, on his back, neck, and hips due to decades of extreme heavy lifting during his bodybuilding days.

He got multiple hip replacements and extensive spinal fusion, leaving his body with several rods and screws, which eventually left him with crutches. Talking about his surgeries in an interview, Coleman said,

“I don’t know if [walking without crutches] will ever happen because I’ve had too much damage done to my body from all these surgeries."

In total, Coleman has had 13 surgeries, which include two hip surgeries, two neck surgeries, and nine back surgeries. During his appearance on Joe Rogan Experience, Coleman talked about his spinal rebuild, saying,

“I’ve got 14 screws, two cages [to hold discs together], two rods about this long [18 inches] in there, too.”

Despite these challenges, Coleman continues his fitness journey, but this time the focus is not on strong muscles, but on his longevity. And it is the same commitment to health that got him praise from his fans.

The Internet Was Left Amazed by Ronnie Coleman’s Dedication to the Gym

Coleman's Instagram comment section was filled with positive comments and compliments left by fans who still follow the legendary bodybuilder even after his retirement. Many comments called him a 'King' and a 'Legend', and many were just people writing 'Yeah Buddy' and 'Lightweight.'

One die-hard fan wrote, 'HAVE YEAH BUDDY TATTED ON MY THIGH SO I REMEMBER ITS LIGHTWEIGHT BABYYYYY.'

Another fan wrote, 'Never change legendary, still look same.'

One fan, inspired by the 8x Mr. Olympia wrote, 'Ronnie, you’re the most inspiring athlete ever. Then AND now.'

A user praised Coleman for his commitment to fitness by writing,

'Ronnie, I’m out on injury right now, but you motivate me to want to keep working out after I recover.'

One fan ever made a cheeky joke by writing, 'The first time you’re saying light weight with actual light weights.'

Coleman may not be lifting heavy weights now, but his legacy has been set, and fans still appreciate him.
