Ronnie Coleman spent $10K every month on Food During His Off-Season Preparations to Remain Heavy
$10k per month is something. But when it is for fueling your dream, it means nothing. With that approach, Ronnie Coleman spent $10k every month on food to fuel his off-season preparations, which led to 8 Mr. Olympia titles.
Let's see what the bodybuilding legend said about it.
In a May 12 Instagram post, Coleman shared an old clip from his bodybuilding days, captioning it, “I was spending $10,000 a month on food alone in the offseason…to get big you gotta eat big!!”
Later in the video, he said, “But once I started eating six times a day and eating more, I used to eat like 10, 12 ounces of food. It was like steaks, chicken, turkey.”
Even that much eating was not enough for him, according to his nutritionist, who suggested he eat more to get bigger.
During the off-season, Coleman used to focus on his bulking. His nutrition plan suggested he eat 4 to 5 ounces more than he was at the time.
However, that definitely helped him, as Coleman admitted, “And he was right. As soon as I started, went from like 10 ounces to 16 ounces, that's when I started putting on time.”
Coleman once mentioned that during his preparation, he used to consume:
- 5000 to 6000 calories per day
- 600g of protein per day
- More than 800 g of carbohydrates every day
That much calorie intake helped him get 315 to 330 lbs during the off-season.
Although that much eating helped him during his preparation days, the bodybuilding legend also admitted it was not easy.
Ronnie Coleman found it hard to eat so much food
Coleman said that after following this advice, he began to gain weight. However, for him, eating so much was not easy at that time.

As the King was juggling his police department job and a bodybuilding competition at the time, he had limited time to eat.
However, Coleman found his way to fulfill his target. He said, “And then I didn't have that time in the day because I was working full time, but I had the food to get up in the middle of the night, eat, and go back to bed.”
In an old interview, Coleman admitted that he had not eaten pizza since 2007.
His commitment and willpower helped him achieve all the success in his life and get what he dreamed of.
