Ryan Reynolds’ Physical Conditioning for Potential Future Films Explained by Celebrity Trainer
Ryan Reynolds seldom appears to be out of shape, regardless of whether he is shooting a superhero movie or is in between projects. His trainer, Don Saladino, reveals on a Men’s Health podcast with Strong Talk how Reynolds stays film-ready for future projects.
He shares an example of if Ryan Reynolds asked Saladino to train him for Deadpool 4, hypothetically, Saladino would give him a timeline of 6 to 8 weeks. However, he admits that this timeline is primarily for fat loss and not muscle building. Saladino designed a specific ‘Deadpool workout’ which Reynolds followed to keep himself in the best shape.
“I would say, for Ryan to feel where he needs to feel, I would give him six to eight weeks,” Saladino says.

He also talks about Reynolds’ goals for future movies, like Deadpool. Reynolds’ primary goal was to become strong and resilient with low body fat. For this, he follows the ‘Deadpool workout’.
As per Don Saladino’s website, the workout split consists of-
- Day 1 for legs
- Day 2 for chest
- Day 3 for arms
- Day 4 for back
- Day 5 for shoulders
Along with following the incredible Deadpool workout, Reynolds also focused on a clean diet and proper rest and recovery.
A look into Ryan Reynolds’ diet and recovery mindset
Saladino has a pretty unconventional approach when it comes to dieting. According to the celebrity trainer, one of the most important things to do is to ‘train your body out of bad lifestyle habits that you have picked up’.
As per T3, He reveals how he advises his clients, including Reynolds, to maintain a strict diet, but never to go into restriction. He talks about reverse dieting- the art of eating more to lose fat.
“A lot of people consume low-calorie diets and then say they can’t understand why they’re not losing weight,” Saladino shared.
“But if you’re only eating, say, 1,200 calories, you can’t remove any more calories if you want to function. Sometimes, you have to reverse diet instead, and that means eating more.”
Rather than following strict diets, fads, or crash dieting, he follows a balanced approach. He consumes plenty of vegetables per meal, along with healthy fats, complex carbs, and lean protein for every meal.
He also prioritizes rest and recovery, ensuring that he walks and stretches daily, along with engaging in mobility sessions. Furthermore, he takes breaks from workouts whenever his body feels overloaded.
According to Saladino’s philosophy, staying mobile, fit, and strong all year round is easy. There is no need to follow any strict diets or intense workout schedules- just stay consistent.
