74-Yr-Old Lou Ferrigno Shares How He Remains Fit and in Shape

In his prime, Lou Ferrigno ruled the bodybuilding world with his muscular physique and incredible strength. That not only led him to win the Mr. Universe title 2 times, in 1973 and 1974, but also pushed him into acting, with the role of the Hulk as his debut movie.

Now, at 74, Ferrigno still maintains a fit shape, and the legend himself revealed the process he follows to do so.

On April 26, WTVR CBS 6 posted a short clip on its Instagram account showing the legend revealing how he stays fit and his anti-aging formula while speaking at GalaxyCon Richmond.

According to Ferrigno, “Be very consistent. I try to exercise four or five days a week because I watch what I eat. I do everything in moderation”.

Speaking about the mistakes most gym-goers make, the retired professional bodybuilder added, “I don't overindulge in different things, like, you know, sometimes people take too many vitamins, too many supplements, too many as****ns.

I mean, it's very simple like that. It's all about listening to your body”.

In a video interview with Men's Health US in February, Ferrigno discussed his workouts, which include:

  • Warm-up: jogging or treadmill walk for 10 minutes
  • Machine preacher curl: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Machine chest press: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Alternating dumbbell curl: 3 sets of 10 reps
  • Triceps kickback: 3 sets of 10 reps each arm

Now, let's dive more into Ferrigno's training rules in his 70s.

Lou Ferrigno’s training rules

In the same interview with Men's Health US, Ferrigno discussed some of his key training rules, which include:

  • Enjoy training: according to him, when someone enjoys doing something, no hurdles can stop them. Ferrigno himself created a makeshift barbell and started training because he could not afford a gym or gym equipment.

  • Ego must be left at the door: he suggests avoiding comparisons while exercising. Ferrigno said, “I don’t compete with other people. It’s all about competing with yourself”.
  • Food-first approach: During his appearance on the Pawn After Dark podcast, Ferrigno outlined his food-first approach. He said, “I eat like meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables. I eat my calories. I don’t drink my calories.” He also avoids fried and high-calorie foods.
  • Fitness does not depend on age: Ferrigno suggested that age should not be an excuse for avoiding exercise. It is all about passion.

At 74, Ferrigno has shown that moderation, a disciplined mindset, and consistency are the keys to health and fitness.
