When success takes over your schedule, even your physique can take a back seat. 3x Mr. Olympia Men’s Physique Champion  Ryan Terry believes that’s not failure, but a trade-off few talk about.

In a world where hustle, growth, and financial success are glorified, fitness often takes a back seat. Terry believes that this doesn't happen naturally; it’s a pattern that comfort makes us choose.

"A lot of successful men become physically average. Something interesting happens to a lot of men once they become successful. Their business grows, their income grows, their responsibilities grow, but their body declines."

According to Terry, once a person becomes successful, they start paying less attention to their health. And the results are obvious.

“If your business has grown but your body has declined, somewhere along the line, your standards have slipped. I know this because I had to solve this myself, running businesses, travelling constantly, raising two kids, while still maintaining elite shape. So I had to build a system that actually works for high-performing men.”

To tackle that, Terry created the Olympia Standards System, although he didn't share any information regarding it.

But there remains one question. What inspires and fuels Terry himself despite being so successful?

What Fueled Ryan Terry's Bodybuilding Journey?

Ryan Terry didn't start bodybuilding with some grand ambitions. Talking to Gulf News in October 2025, he revealed what was really the driving factor for his bodybuilding journey.

"At first, I started because of mild body dysmorphia. I thought changing my physical appearance would help me mentally,” said Terry. “Then it reached a point where I needed that competitive outlet again. Around 20, I realised bodybuilding could give me that drive. Once I set my mind to something, I can’t let go until I’m the best at it. That’s how I got obsessed with bodybuilding.”

The true turning point for Terry came with fatherhood. What started as a selfish quest to prove himself shifted dramatically.

“I focus a lot on my children. Before I had them, it was about my reputation and proving myself. I was selfish, to be honest. But once I became a father, everything changed. Now it’s about providing for them and making them proud,” concluded Terry.

From insecurity to family man, Ryan Terry didn’t just build an elite physique. He built a life of meaning, fueled by love, competition, and an unrelenting drive to be the best.
