Barbara Eden's age-defying fitness continues to captivate fans. The 'I Dream of Jeannie' star credits her longevity to more than just exercise. Her philosophy on staying active reveals a key secret to her vitality at 93.
Eden gained fame with the TV show 'I Dream of Jeannie' on NBC, which ran from 1965 to 1970. She has always been a fitness enthusiast and trained hard to remain in shape all her life.
“I used to work out all the time,” she told Fox News. “I used to do spinning classes and then do weights with a trainer."
However, due to COVID, she stopped heavy lifting, but she still lifts light weights, along with some cycling, as they are good for her bones.
She also enjoys brisk walking more than running. Eden credited her parents for this lifelong dedication to fitness.
“I was lucky to have a mother and father who were conscious of eating well and living,” she said.
Along with this, Eden also has a vice that she is often unable to control.
“I like sweets. I like key lime pie. My sister brought me one for my birthday,” she said. “I also like angel food cake. I make my own angel food cake and then put a very sharp, sweet lemon icing on it."
Basically, it is difficult for her to resist anything sweet.
She looks gorgeous at this age, and a little bit of cheat snacks is not making her any less healthy, as long as she can balance it out with how she works out.
Exactly when one thinks Eden's fitness routine is the whole story, her opinion on aging reveals something even more powerful.
Barbara Eden Reveals Why Staying Busy Is Her Real Secret to Longevity
When Barbara Eden first became a nonagenarian in 2021, she was “so surprised to be ninety.” “The time had passed so fast,” she said at the time.
“I wasn’t paying attention. Now I guess I have to. Every time I turn around, somebody says, ‘Hey, you’re ninety!’ And I say, ’Hey, I’m really lucky!’”
Eden revealed that most of her diet consists of protein and vegetables. "I'm a carnivore … I like steaks. We have lots of pork, chicken, steak [and] veggies," she mentioned.
She viewed her career as “a gift”. "Many people must work jobs they despise, just to survive, but how fortunate we are to be able to study something that makes us happy, enjoy it, and see others enjoy it too?" Eden added about her career.
"I guess it is a gift from life, if one is ready to put in their effort."
An empty mind is a devil's workshop, is what Eden believes. The secret to a healthy life is not only diet and exercise, but it is all about keeping 'busy,' said Eden.
Her longevity isn’t about slowing down, but about continuing to live with intention every single day.
