Vegan vs Carnivore: Who wins the deadlift challenge?

One of the most talked-about issues in the fitness world remains the vegan vs carnivore diet. Both sides strongly hold on to their beliefs and principles, asserting their superiority. Once again, this debate has been put to the test by a deadlift challenge between vegans and meat eaters.

An Instagram video posted by bwvine (Brandon William) on June 23 showcases two groups of deadlifters challenging each other to the heaviest deadlifts.

Captioned, “Who can deadlift the most?” features both parties progressing with heavier weights.

“I’ve never seen a vegan handle four plates before,” the carnivore dead lifter says. To this, the vegan replies, “It’s gonna get better,” exuding confidence.

Progressing from 315 pounds to a whopping 585 pounds, the lifters seem at ease picking up the weights. However, when the final plates are placed, the vegan dead lifter struggles to get the bar above his knees.

The carnivore, however, completes the challenge, putting an end to the debate for this round.

Beyond the Hype: The Real Nutrition Formula

When it comes to strength training, the winning diet isn’t carnivore, omnivore, or vegan. What makes a difference is getting enough carbs, calories, and protein to fuel strength and recovery.

As per the National Library of Medicine, the right amount of protein to support muscle growth and recovery is 1.4 to 2.0 g per kg of body weight. However, those going for higher protein intake- 2.3 to 3.1 g per kg might help preserve muscle when losing fat, weight, or dieting.

Protein alone is insufficient. A balanced diet with carbs and healthy fats is essential. These balanced meals are incredible in enhancing recovery and supporting strength gains.

The best food choices include-

  • Eggs (6g protein)
  • Chicken breast (31g protein in 100g cooked chicken breast)
  • Salmon (22-25g protein)
  • Lean beef (26-28g protein)
  • Rice (45g carbs in one cup)
  • Sweet potato (24g carb)
  • Banana (27g carb)
  • Beans (35g carb)

At the end of the day, this challenge does not define the debate between the vegan and carnivore diets. Your dietary label doesn’t matter as much as smart nutrition and consistent training.

What is your opinion on the vegan vs carnivore debate, and what kind of diet do you follow? Tell us in the comments.
