When Arnold Schwarzenegger's ex-wife Maria Shriver revealed her diet and practices for better brain health

Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger's ex-wife and founder of the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, practices a holistic lifestyle to support her cognitive health.

“Food has always been a struggle for me ever since I was a young girl," Shriver said, speaking about her diet in an interview with Shop TODAY. "I’ve had a sweet tooth. I can now feel when I eat something that’s high in sugar. I’m still vulnerable to that pull.”

But now she eats mindfully, prioritizing her brain health rather than focusing on weight. That’s why she created MOSH (Maria Owings Shriver Health) with her son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, in 2021.

At MOSH, Shriver and her son produce healthy protein bars made from ingredients like:

  • Cognizine Citicoline
  • Vitamins
  • Omega-3s
  • Lion’s mane

These ingredients target memory and neuroprotection, key pillars of her brain-health philosophy.

In the Shop TODAY interview, she also revealed that to make the protein bars tasty, along with being healthy, they “tried to keep up to date and stay current and keep reiterating and iterating. It’s really a labor of love.”

She herself eats at least two MOSH bars a day. If not MOSH bars, she opts for Swedish fish, licorice, or Dots for her brain. Another thing she prefers to eat is peanut butter with a chocolate flavor, with plant-based hazelnut chocolate chips.

Along with eating, drinking has also been a vital part of her daily routine, which is why she always carries electrolytes to mix with water. The entrepreneur likes to kick-start her day with strong black coffee.

Apart from eating well, she also follows healthy practices to support a strong, healthy brain.

Beyond the plate: meditation, sleep, and fitness

In the same interview, Shriver also revealed some healthy practices she follows.

“I meditate every morning for brain health.”

Along with this, she also prioritizes her sleep schedule for her brain health.

In fact, Shriver also tries to limit her screen time at night and follows a consistent sleep routine, which includes:

  • Put eyedrops
  • Take shower
  • Brush teeth
  • Prays to God

Along with this, she also maintains a proper fitness and training routine, which includes:

  • Strength training (3 to 4 days a week)
  • Using elliptical
  • Walking

Shriver credits this integrated approach to her sustained cognitive clarity.
