Why Did Alison Hammond Stop Doing Long Treadmill Workouts?
The personal trainer of British broadcaster and TV personality Alison Hammond revealed her training philosophy, which helped Hammond shed 11 stone (almost 154 lbs) to achieve a healthy, fit, and toned physique.
According to Women’s Health, Hammond hired Ellis Gatfield as her personal trainer 5 years ago. Gatfield introduced her to strength training, which Hammond practices regularly to lose weight.
However, the This Morning presenter also quit some of her fitness habits, with long treadmill sessions among the primary ones. According to Gatfield, “She never particularly enjoyed traditional cardio, so instead of forcing long treadmill sessions, I focused on raising her heart rate through resistance training performed in a circuit format, using mainly compound movements.”

This shift benefited the Your Song host in several ways, such as:
- Help in building cardiovascular fitness
- Build strength
- Provide a good shape to her body
Her trainer further explained that, “The biggest mistake from her training before was believing that exercise had to mean long, boring cardio sessions to lose weight. That mindset made training feel like a chore rather than something to enjoy.”
Along with this, she stopped skipping rest days, which are essential for proper recovery. Additionally, the broadcaster stopped forcing exercise that she didn't enjoy.
In fact, her trainer, Gatfield, said, “Once we shifted to a style of training she genuinely liked, everything became easier. Training stopped feeling forced, consistency improved naturally, and results followed.”
Nowadays, Hammond follows a dedicated weekly training regimen.

- Thursday: Kettlebell circuit (for 30 minutes)
- Friday: Boxing session (for 30 minutes)
- Saturday: Low-intensity walk or rest

Along with regular training, diet has also played a vital role in her transformation. According to Women’s Health, Hammond also cut down on sugar in her diet, which helped her in her transformation.
So, this perfect balance of consistent training and healthy eating is the true secret behind the transformation of the 51-year-old co-host of The Great British Bake Off.
