4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler reacts to Alex Gomez’s 405lb bench
Jay Cutler has moved some serious iron during his era and seen some of the best powerlifters, too, but even Cutler stopped scrolling seeing this viral clip of a teenage powerlifter.
Recently, the 2026 Florida State Powerlifting champion, Alex Gomez, posted a TikTok video, where he was bench pressing 405 lbs despite his bodyweight being just 154lbs. The video went viral and was reshared by many lifters.
Among those who stopped to take notice was Cutler himself, who dropped a comment that said it all: "Impressive lift."
The video racked up around 2,300 likes on the Rising Lifters Instagram page. The lift was 2.6 times Gomez's body weight, drawing massive encouragement from the gym crowd and even more praise online.
Gomez's 405 lb press at 154 lb has created a significant disruption in the powerlifting world. The evolution of this sport and the heavy weights these athletes are lifting represent a major boom in the industry.
This is just the start of Gomez's career, and the four-time Olympia champion is already noticing him.
Jay Cutler Was a Teenage Strength Phenom Long Before TikTok Created Viral Lifters
Jay Cutler has had his fair share of fame during his teenage years. Although there was no social media or TikTok to make people go viral overnight, people actually had to carve their paths to make a name for themselves in the community back then.
The 4-time Mr. Olympia was viewed as "the muscle kid" while growing up in Massachusetts. The future bodybuilding icon was already famous back then for having an unusual amount of strength.
According to The Barbell, Cutler used to lift cars at parties as a teenager. Having to work at his brother's Concrete Foundations at the age of 11 unknowingly made him strong.
He later told The Barbell, “I hated that job. Every weekend, every school vacation, and all summer long, I was getting dragged out of bed at six A.M. and carrying 80-pound concrete forms until sundown."
Cutler also highlighted the bright side of his grueling routine, saying, "But it taught me you have to work for what you get in life, and when it comes down to treating this [bodybuilding] not only as a job but as a do-or-die situation, I train at 100%, and I don’t complain. Because of where I began, it’s never difficult for me.”
Cutler gained nearly 50 pounds within his first four months of serious training, quickly turning heads for his rapid physical development.
Where would you place him on the list of all-time greats in the sport?
