While many struggle to walk on their own at 79, Joan MacDonald still carries a fit physique that could put many youngsters to shame. So let's learn her fitness secrets from her own account.

On February 21, MacDonald took to her Instagram profile and shared a reel of the various exercises in her workout regimen. Her dedication, even at 79, spoke volumes about how she manages to maintain such fitness.

The collection of motivational captions in the foreground of her workout specification video read:

“Just one more rep, even if it means slower than the first. Just one more set, even if your muscles are shaking. Just one more push when it starts to burn, and your mind says stop. Just one more day of choosing yourself, especially when it would be easier not to."

But this wasn't the first time Macdonald posted a fitness-related update. She keeps on motivating her followers to be fitter with her videos at regular intervals.

Starting to train at this age was hard for her, but after she got a taste of it, she started training five days a week. MacDonald said, “Once I got stronger, I started doing weight training five days a week. My plan had me doing two leg sessions, two upper body and one glute-focused session per week.”

Her entire week's workout schedule looks something like this:

  • Monday: Yoga
  • Tuesday: Upper-body strength workout
  • Wednesday: Lower-body strength workout
  • Thursday: Cardio
  • Friday: Upper-body strength workout
  • Saturday: Lower-body strength workout
  • Sunday: Cardio

She might be strong and almighty now, but it wouldn’t have been possible without a proper diet.

Joan MacDonald keeps a track of her Macros

MacDonald's toned and lean physique wouldn’t have been possible without a proper diet. While speaking with Women’s Health, she revealed that she drastically changed her eating habits to become as fit as possible: “I did change my diet too.”

He further added, “I started eating five balanced meals a day. As part of my plan, I had to track my macros – how much protein, carbs, and fats I needed in each of the five meals. I could eat whatever I wanted, but it had to match the macros I was given by my daughter."

“I also had to stop snacking, and I had to drink water with every meal, and just slow down when I ate in general.”

With a social media following of over 2 million, Joan MacDonald often shares the tricks that have kept her healthy. That being said, what are your thoughts on her journey?
