A Look Back at 2x Olympic Gold Medalist Sunisa Lee's Healthy Eating Habits Anyone Can Follow

Sunisa Lee's diet reveals a surprising balance. The Olympic champion combines protein-rich meals with cheat days scattered around. Her routine offers a relatable look into fueling a world-class athlete.

So what exactly does she eat? Lee’s day starts with a solid caffeine boost, especially on days when she has training, interviews, or meetings. She always stops by Starbucks and takes two drinks.

The first one is a matcha or coffee. Lee’s most preferred one is a venti iced matcha latte with two pumps of vanilla and coconut milk. For the second drink, Lee often takes a strawberry lemonade refresher.

  • She also keeps changing her breakfast meals to avoid getting bored.
  • Sometimes she prefers a strawberry-banana smoothie mixed with vanilla protein powder.
  • Because of kidney-related concerns, she always chooses options with low sodium.

Sunisa Lee’s Lunch

Following a protein-rich breakfast, she likes something light but filling. So that is why she opts for a bowl of quinoa or a salad. While speaking to Good Morning America, she said that she is “a big soup girl, so I always have to have chicken noodle soup and a Caesar salad.

In one of his TikTok videos, which she captioned as “chill day,” she seems to be having a mixed bowl of edamame and fish. 

For snacks 

6-time Olympic medalist, told Women's Health, that she prefers eating savory food such as

  • Jack cheese sticks.
  • hummus with pita chips.

Other than that, she likes banana chips and trail mix items like almonds. She also told PS (formerly Popsugar) that one of the “must-have” food items is the Clif Chocolate Chip Energy Bar. Suni also loves to eat cheese and salami together, as well as protein wafers.

Dinner

After a busy day, she mostly enjoys a steak mixed with green vegetables like Brussels sprouts and beans. She ensures her daily protein intake stays in check. It also helps her recovery from muscle damage.

She once admitted to Self that she prefers to eat around 7:30 pm, and she eats late because Lee prefers not to spend much time between her last meal and bedtime. She mostly sleeps at around 8 pm.

Sunisa Lee focuses on her mental health before bed. She mostly lights a candle, writes a journal, and keeps a planner. Lee also follows a light stretching routine before bed and tries to sleep for 7 hours.

She believes in moderate indulgence in sweets and treats herself by eating something sweet after a meal. She told WH that she “loves ice cream ... or a milkshake.” 

While giving an interview to Axios, she spoke about her favourite ice cream and boba shop named “Treats”  at Grand Avenue in her hometown, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Sunisa Lee’s love for pizza 

She told NBC Olympics, “You guys know I love pizza. I can eat that literally every single day of my life.” After seeing her love for pizza brands like Domino's and Papa John's, she was offered pizza through 2024 and free pizza for life, respectively.
