A devastating blow struck Mike Sommerfeld before even stepping on the stage of the Arnold Classic 2026, as the German bodybuilder crashed out of the contest due to missing weight.

On March 6, 2026, Mike Sommerfeld dropped a post on his Instagram and wrote, “Heading into the show, the weight didn’t come down enough to meet the Classic Physique limit. I take full responsibility for that.”

After losing the opportunity, he handled the situation with an optimistic mindset and wrote, “Moments like this don’t define you — they humble you.” He explained, “We reset, we adjust, and we move forward.”

Instead of stepping away and repenting on situation, Sommerfeld implied that he was ready to roar at the next stage. The 31-year-old stated, “The focus now shifts forward. See you at the Arnold Classic UK.”

In the Classic Physique category, a rigid height-based weight rule is followed, which helps in maintaining the divisional focus on symmetry and proportions. Attendees of the completions revealed that Mike was expecting a new height-based weigh-in, as he planned his final weight accordingly.

But when that re-measurement didn't happen, Mike’s previous height stayed official, which ultimately left him almost 7 pounds over the allowed limit.

Now, his fans will be waiting to see him in the Arnold Classic UK, which will be held in Birmingham between March 27 and 29. However, the dates say that Sommerfeld doesn't have much to prepare.

However, the Arnold Classic 2026 is far from being the first event where the height-and-weight-related issue got him into trouble.

Mike Sommerfeld’s Height/Weight Cap Issue at the 2025 Olympia

According to Fitness Volt, before the 2025 Olympia, Mike faced confusion about his height and weight eligibility for the Classic Physique category.

In 2019, while speaking to Dennis James, Sommerfeld said that his height was  5’7”. On the other hand, in a viral clip with Jay Cutler, Mike revealed his division weight cap was 212 pounds.

And here the conversation sparked, because to fall into the 212 lbs category, the prescribed height of an athlete must be  5’9.5″ as per the IFBB Pro League rules.

So, during the Olympia check-ins, the official decided to remeasure the athletes, which forced Sommerfeld to lose 14lbs in just 2 days to meet the 204-pound requirement, and this is how he met the official height/weight requirement to compete in the Mr. Olympia 2025.

But that couldn't happen at the 2026 Arnold Classic, and he paid the price with an elimination.

So, with Sommerfeld now targeting the stage of the Arnold Classic UK, are you excited to watch how he fares in it?
