Alica Schmidt on the Real Purpose of the Body Beyond Beauty- “Perform, Feel, Grow”
German athlete Alica Schmidt dedicates a lot of her time to maintaining the performance-ready condition of her body. However, recently, she added several other aspects that are connected to our bodies besides performing.
In one of her Instagram posts, Schmidt reminded everyone of the real purpose of our bodies. With a caption that read, "Reminder: your body is not here to simply be looked at.
It’s here to live, perform, feel, grow, run, fight, heal & carry you through life," Schmidt had some important things to say.
In her post, Schmidt tried to steer the focus away from women's beauty to functionality. Her point was that bodies aren't only for glamour and beauty; they need to be strong and viable. And she illustrated that by laying it all out. According to her, a body should:
- Be strong
- Be fast
- Be capable
- And powerful
She even ended the post by writing, 'Your body isn't decoration, use it.'
The 27-year-old is a decorated track and field star who has won multiple competitions, including:
- Silver medal — 2017 European U20 Championships (4×400m relay)
- Bronze medal — 2019 European U23 Championships (4×400m relay)
- German national relay champion in the 4×400m
- German indoor champion in the 4×200m relay
- Multiple podium finishes at German Championships in the 400m and relay events
She is also known to give her fans a little sneak peek into her training routines now and then.
Alica Schmidt’s Training and Diet Routine
Here is a full breakdown of Alica Schmidt's training routine.
Track training:
A threshold session: 20 rounds of 300m intervals with a 40-second recovery between reps. The goal of the session is to maintain controlled endurance and not maximize speed. The focus is on staying in the correct lactate zone (~3.5 mmol/L)
"I have to take lactic today, and I hope that I'm in the right zone, so that's always the key point that we're not running too fast or too slow, um, that we have the right lactic. The lactic should be around 3.5, so we will see if I can hit that, some hydration, of course."
Weight training:
- Lunges with resistance bands (forward and backward)
- Hip rounds with resistance bands (clockwise and anti-clockwise)
- Barbell squats
- Nordic Hamstring Curls
Diet routine:
As for her diet routine, Schmidt follows a carefully curated plan that helps her maintain peak physical fitness. Her diet consists of lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and essential healthy fats, which build muscle and endurance, and also help her recover faster. She makes sure to hydrate herself and eat superfoods like avocados, nuts, and berries.
She even shared one of her famous chicken and honey recipes, which is as follows:
1kg Chicken, 2 tsp onion powder, 4 garlic cloves, Salt & pepper to taste, Honey Sauce: 70g Honey, 50g sriracha sauce (or ketchup), 30g apple cider vinegar, 10g sesame oil, Salt to taste, 350g Rice, 2 Broccoli, 2 spring onion, and 1.5 Tbsp black sesame seeds.
