American Fitness Influencer Takes On a Gymnastics Kid in $100 Backflip Contest
American fitness influencer Jesse James West often collaborates with celebrities and athletes for intriguing physical challenges. This time, West lost a challenge to an 11-year-old gymnast.
In his recent YouTube shorts video on May 5, West threw down the gauntlet at an 11-year-old gymnast, Luca Leykin, for a $100 acrobatic contest. The challenge: do the most backflips without stepping outside the line, mimicking the balance beam gymnastics events.
Seconds into the video, the winner was clear. Leykin maintained a composed stature, landing on the line with both his feet. On the contrary, West had a hard time maintaining balance, managing to land only one foot on the line.
By the third flip, West's wobbling saga ended with a tumbling misstep over the line, crowning Leykin as the winner of the $100. The duo played some other gymnastics challenges, too.
However, while the video was a friendly challenge, Leykin's skills are real.
Competing for the EVO team Florida, at just 11-years-old, the kid gymnast has a competitive pedigree that even most adults would envy. Showing up at the global stages since just 6 years of age, the level 6E gymnast has grown up in the public spotlight.
After such a tested resume, no surprise that the challenge was a walk in the park for Leykin. But he's only one of the other sports' child prodigies.
Jesse James West platforms top-shelf kid athletes
The backflip contest was a small part of his latest video, "The World's Fittest Kids!", where he brought to the limelight some of the best children athletes in the world.
Lucy Milgrim, an inspiring 9-year-old powerlifter and wrestler, joined West for a deadlift competition. Acing that was no challenge, having already stunned the world with her 180 lbs deadlift at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, at a 4'2", sub-60 lbs physique.
Moreover, a 9-year-old boxer, Sunnie Lee, a 12-year-old jiujiteiro Brody Bowen, and a 12-year-old Ninja athlete, Meghan Moore, also joined the video, showcasing their exceptional talent.
And while West's challenges accounted for the kids' ages, these athletes prove that skill, dedication, and focused training can beat even those odds. What's your opinion on the next generation of sports phenoms?
