Silva’s most recent promotion, where he competed, Fame MMA, announced his tragic demise. Their statement read, “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of FAME athlete Jay Silva. Jay brought a smile, positive emotions, and the professionalism of a true athlete to his performances.

He will forever remain a part of our federation’s history! We extend our sincerest condolences to Jay’s loved ones, family, and friends. Rest in peace!”

The news of the Angolan-born American spread rapidly across the internet. Fans have posted touching messages, with some fondly reminiscing about his magnetic persona and charm, while others mourned the too-soon loss.

Jay Silva’s Most Memorable Moments

Silva, who began his journey as a nightclub bouncer, rose rapidly in the MMA community due to his hard work and dedication. During an interview with MMA fighting in 2009, Silva opened up about his journey and how he felt to finally be where he was.

"I just worked so hard to get here, and I am finally here. I'm just going to believe it when I'm in there, in the Octagon, on TV. That's when I'm really going to believe it."

Fans will always remember the moment when “Da Spyda Killa” defeated former ‘The Ultimate Fighter 3’ winner, Kendall Grove, on February 16, 2012. The win turned into one of the most defining moments of his career, as he was the first ever fighter to submit Grove in an MMA clash with a second-round arm-triangle choke.

Even though Silva had been in just four professional fights, he was called up by the UFC in 2009. This was one of the fastest leaps to promotion in the MMA ranks. He recorded his final professional fight on April 5, 2025, against Denis Labryga, 16 years after his debut. Unfortunately, he lost the fight, closing out his professional career.

Jay Silva’s resilience and persona have ensured that he will leave a lasting mark on the MMA community.
