Arnold Schwarzenegger's path to Hollywood wasn't built on acting classes alone. It was forged in the gym. Five years ago, in a commencement speech, the star detailed how the discipline from bodybuilding gave him the tools to conquer the film industry, even when critics called him 'unsellable'.

At the University of Southern California graduation ceremony, former bodybuilder and Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered an iconic commencement speech that resonates with everyone who listens.

During his speech, he reflected on how his bodybuilding journey didn’t just transform his physique but also laid the foundation for his glorious Hollywood career. It gave him popularity, confidence, and a massive physical build that was hard to ignore. Yet, his transition to Hollywood wasn’t smooth.

"It's all about the hard work that you put in, I said I must have been bodybuilding. I worked out five six hours a day. I'm gonna do the same thing now for acting, and of course, I went to college to study English. I studied the accent removal, acting classes, and all of this stuff all day long, I worked, and I worked, and I worked."

Schwarzenegger recalled that in his initial days, he faced harsh criticism for his muscular build, with many Hollywood elites dubbing it “unsellable,” and his thick accent was considered a liability. This belief grew stronger after the failure of his movie Hercules in New York. But Schwarzenegger didn't let it deter him.

Instead of giving up, he worked hard on himself, improving his acting and accent skills. Finally, his hard work paid off when he was cast in Conan the Barbarian, which was a blockbuster success.

"I was asked by Dino De Laurentiis at Universal Studios to star in Conan the barbarian and the director at the press conference said to the press if we wouldn't have had Arnold, we would have had to build one."

Soon after, Schwarzenegger starred in his career-defining film, The Terminator, where his once mocked accent was the key characteristic of the Terminator's machine-like persona. What critics had labeled as negatives became the very traits that made him unforgettable.
