Disagreements can demolish any friendship faster. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who shared an immense fondness for Clint Eastwood, removed him from a state commission in 2008 due to a Route 241 highway project.

"It's not like I need a day job," the actor said, as per Vijesti online.

When Schwarzenegger took office in 2003, Eastwood had been serving on the California State Park and Recreation Commission since 2001. Then-governor Gray Davis appointed him.

The same Vijesti report noted that Eastwood was dismissed because of a disagreement between the two Hollywood veterans. Eastwood publicly opposed the state's Route 241 highway project, a plan Schwarzenegger firmly backed.

However, for Schwarzenegger, Route 241 was not merely a road. It was part of the governor's own infrastructure development effort meant to alleviate traffic problems in the growing south Orange County area.

Therefore, the challenge of Eastwood became directly threatening to one of the governor’s key projects.

Eastwood was not the only one dismissed. Schwarzenegger also removed his then-brother-in-law, Bobby Shriver, as per the same report, from the commission over the same fiasco.

All in all, the Route 241 extension did not come to fruition for almost a decade. It only moved forward in 2021, and their friendship did not end in 2008.

Years after Schwarzenegger removed Eastwood from the California Parks Commission, in 2019, Schwarzenegger uploaded a picture of himself and Eastwood. He was around 89 years old. They both wore ski gear on a trip to the slopes together.

The image showed two Hollywood veterans spending time together because of their mutual respect, and it also defused the political dispute between them.

"Name a more iconic duo? I will wait," Schwarzenegger captioned the post as per a People report.

This was a lighthearted jab at their decade-long friendship. He previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he viewed Eastwood as an icon and was very grateful for Eastwood's contribution to the film industry.
